  • So, what do ya wanna talk about today?
Check this beast men, Mike's just finished it, and you know it's good! Mike just sent me the pics, I won't steal his thunder, if you want to know what's been done to it (or more like, what HASN'T, ha ha!) ask away, I'm sure he'll be happy to fill you all in! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

Congrats Mike! I love that cafe-fairing. Where did you get it from?

It's definitely a state-of-the-art tuned bike!!

First...Thanks for posting the pics Terry- I couldn't get more than 1 pic at a time up. Like I've said, I know alot more about bikes than computers. Raul- that fairing was a Piranha unit I bought about 1980. Actually my brother and I bought 2 as we went on a bike trip down Skyline Drive into Virginia etc at that time. My brother was 16 and owned a 1977 F2- not a bad ride for being 16  years old! Cben, what would you like to know? It's 915cc with the M3 5mm valve conversion and cam chain tensioner. Crankshaft has been lightened and transmission undercut. It also has the late model clutch conversion. I included a pic of the digital oil gauge I installed this year as Bob Wessner asked about it. It is easy to install (screw sensor in the oil pan drain bolt and hook up connections). I used one of the open female bullet connections for the speedo/tach lights for switched power. Carbs are CR 31's. I included a pic of the remote idle adjustment set up- you can just see the knob over the top right of the K&N filter. It works very well. Also included the oil cooler set up- it's and Earl's unit-with Terry's oil filter adaptor. I also have Terry's oil pressure gauge but it is being polished. All the exterior engine fasteners are stainless steel Allens which I turned down on the lathe to remove casting crap and than I polished them. Looks great but all the detail stuff does eat up time. I've owned the bike almost 30 years and always find something to change or improve. This stuff really is art.

No that's a good question. On relatively stock engines they do not make much of a difference- certainly not enough to justify the cost. The OEM 28's on the your CB are good carbs IMO. When you start getting into larger bores with much bigger cams and headwork the extra capacity of the CR's helps especially at high RPM's. They are much easier to adjust in regard to changing needle height and main jets. They do not have a port to screw in a carb synch tool which sucks BUT I figured a way around that. Seeing how it's 1 pic I'll take one and show how I did it.

Mike - Can you give a little more info about this? Is it a temp gauge? Where did you get the parts from? If there's a thread about it that answers these questions, just paste it here.

Thanks
Brian

Brian Yes it's an oil temp gauge. When the bike is shut off it goes to a military time clock. Shindy makes them under the "Daytona" product line. http://www.shindypro.com/catalog/each_q_ptype.key33.html
The adaptor supplied is the same size as the oil pan bolt. They( the whole unit, gauge sender etc) are sold thru Parts Unlimited (have to go to a dealer) and probably Dennis Kirk. It works well!

Thanks Mike. I'll probably end up with one of these. I don't think that I need to watch my oil temp too much here in Seattle, but I'm kind of a nerd and want every measurement that I can get.

And by the way, your bike is BEAUTIFUL!

The seat is the stock F3 seat that has had the front cut down about an 1" and recovered by Sargent seats. The stock front foam has been cut down and mostle replaced  with their "Atomic Foam" which works nice! The front half has their texture material while the back half is smooth. I refinished(removed seat foam from pan, bead blasted and painted) the seat pan prior tp sending it to Sargents. I removed the trim strip on the bottom (the holes in the cowling had been filled in long ago when it was painted). Cben, I'll try to post a pic of the mos for carb synching. I'm switching to a new server and a new laptop show it may take a couple of days but basically it involves placing brass tubes with a lip in the middle of the tube into the carb boot. It looks like a many modern set ups...works great to. ;)

BTW...the raersets are Raask. Not the greatest build quality but the only available for that model. They work fine.

May I stop over to shave in the reflection of the engine?!!!!!

What did you put on the polished alum?

Do you have a lock on your garage?  When do you plan to vacation?

Do you ride it a lot, I think I would have someone else ride it so I could just watch my work roll by!
These wonderful little birds are great flyers, delicious eating, excellent for training your hunting dog, and just fun to shoot,or stuff and keep around the house.  Bobwhites can be put with other types of Quail and have very large penis's.  Quail are very popular with the babes.
