Have fun cleaning those guys out! I've got a set of Seca/Maxim/XJ650 carbs coming in soon that I'll be tearing into... I hope they don't look that bad! :)

To answer your question, no those aren't the worst that I've seen. In fact, from my experience, I would rather see that kind of crud than the greenish ethanol residue. From the looks of your carbs, they've been sitting for many years and will clean up very nicely with little to no corrosion damage to the jet towers.

My friend and I were taking apart the carb from his fathers 1950's dodge 1 3/4 ton truck once that had been in the bushes for 20 years and there was a frog living inside it...

I had a set of sandcast carbs as bad or worse. I believe a tank of gas trickled through them in a storage building, I cleaned them for two days and then went to my local 750 guru who remarked they were among the worst he had seen. LoL. I trusted him with them because he assembled that bike new.
Take care to remove as much goo as possible and maybe add a little hairdryer heat before unscrewing things. I've had pilot jets twist off and then used heat and carb cleaner to get the twisted part out, that told me I could have saved them if I had used more patience.

Sounds like a god trick, the alum heats up more than the brass with a bit of heat and the minute gap made lets in carb cleaner  :D

Noted...!!!  ;)

I think the heat softens the goo a little. I used hot water in my ultrasonic cleaner on a Carter AFB long enough to get the interior apart when I couldn't on the bench. It hasn't removed all of the black carbon yet. I'm thinking it's time to change the bath water. I've got pine sol in it now, maybe I'll try some dishwasher detergent with a close watch.
