Topic: Oh dear lord help me what have I done?

A giant "Texas size" hello from Austin from this new owner of a '73 CB750.  I know this sounds tarded, but this is my first bike.  Yeah yeah, I know, its getting to be a bit of an "In thing" to pick up these old UJM's.  But #$%* it, I've been dreaming of nothing else for a year and a half.  And I'm the one looking stupid and getting dirty fixing it up, so yeah.  Its all about steep learning curves.

I'd post some pics, but #$%*ty ignition coils mean that my ride is not capable of riding yet.  The thought of posing on a bike that doesn't actually fire seems lame to me.  But as god as my witness and Clymer as my guide I will make this bike run despite the maintenance shortcomings of the person who sold it to me and the dealer who sold it to him.

Great site.  Friendly-seeming too.  I've already scoped some new coils from some of the links.  Updates to come.

      Believe me that there are few greater thrills than the sound when your dead Honda four engine comes back to life.  Then the trip down the driveway under power.  If there are any questions about procedure in the CLYMERS MANUAL, don't hesitate to ask.  The knowledge of your fellow SOHC4 brethren is tremendous.  They got me up and running and I enjoy and learn from the postings every chance I get to visit this site.

I see you allready know how to use our favourite tool (the six pack).

My first bike, a 750 K6, was a real pile of junk. It took me  6 months to get it running.
That was 10 years ago. The bike is still running although it now shares the room with a 750 F2 who is allmost running.

Some of the guys here have over 10 years of experience with these bikes and know every bolt in and out. Do not hesitate to ask questions. We will get your bike running in notime.

I got a new ignition coil coming, should be a cinch to put in.  But one problem vexes me.  Can't get the #2 spark plug out.  The plug itself is not stuck, just something  in the engine block bocking the socket bit from grasping the plug.  Its not loose debris, just part of the engine housing.  Any tips on this?

The wires to the plugs (from the coil) were a bit fried when I bought the bike.  The bike was bored out to 800+cc before I bought it, and has since been running rich, thus fouling the plugs.  I'm hoping the engine mod won't give me ignition problems in the future.  Any advice or insight on this matter?

The hole on nr2 is the same as on nr3. Take a mirror and a flash light and check it out. The plug may be stripped (very bad) or something is still wedged in it.

Damn, this is my first bike too. I lucked out with one that has been well taken care of. I just joined yesterday, and it's comforting to know I'm not the only green one here.

It's great to hear that ones dream being turned into a reality after over a year of waiting.  Firing up your bike will make all that time feel worthwhile. This forum has a wealth of information.
I'm fortunate that my bike was already a strong runner when I bought it.  It'll be in the 80's this weekend and I'm itching to go for a ride, but I have to work.

well done lads on the great choice of bike..... they are great to learn mechanics on, easy, and very fullfilling when you turn thekey, and give her a good kick the first time... to be rewarded with thesounds of SOHC/4 air cooled mayhem!!!!!! wooooo Hooooooo!!.... yep love them, and the bunch of guys and gals on this site are second to none when it comes tohelping a fellow honda four nut out.... have fun, learn heaps, and look forward to chatting some more......
