If you are in UK got to the UK site and search for Menno, he does fantastic work
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

It cost some to do it home, strip all paint and 2k bondo. Find new dents to fill, sand, fill, sand, fill and sand again. 2K primer, sand it again. Base coat layers until even color let it cure a few minutes between each. 2K clear 30 minutes after last layer of base.

Wait one week, sand it and add graphics. Wait a week more and 2K clear on tank again.
The garage smelled like shortened my life a few years, the paint stripper reduced some too  8)  My idea was to make it cheap, I did not count all hours hard stinking work. All material needed costed some too.  ???

Leave it to a professional is not expensive was my daily thought when doing this one year ago. My result look OK from 2-3 meters a sunny day.

I'm sure a pro like Menno does it perfectly, better than Honda did. I have read several happy customers threads on the UK SOHC site.

Edit
Sh!t, threads like this give me ideas $$$
My K6 bike had an almost turquoise blue from the very beginning. The Candy Sapphire Blue tank of old style Yamiya sell and bike has now is darker.

My K6 might need to get a K6 tank with correct petcock and correct color.
I must find a K6 tank without dents, my original has dents and rust. I might PM Menno another day.  ;)

Metalmicky - prices depend on state of your parts.
You can always send me some pictures - that will make it easier for me to give an answer.
tanklackieren at hotmail.de

Pewe - 99% of the tanks that arrive here have dents and rust.
Rust is being removed (outside and inside) by having the tank chemically cleaned.
Examples are to be found on my website.

If you really want a dentles tank by a new replica tank; they are a very good substitute.

Yes, replica tanks look good. But I have only seen the early model, not K6 with 1 pipe petcock on left side.
My K6 has a Yamiya set with early 2 pipe petcock on right side today.

Hi guys
So what would be an average type of price for complete job?

My last paint job was around $600 but included a fairing, tank, side covers and seat.  I bought the paint [$125]

Candy will cost more than solid paint.
Primer, base, top and clear.
The graphics, vinyle stickers or painted will add more hours and paint.

Cleaning tank from old paint and rust add more as well.
