‘79 CBX Custom
« on: December 10, 2019, 09:42:14 AM »
I went to the motorcycle show at the Javits Center in NYC over the weekend. I like to go down there and ogle all the new bikes and gear. Very similar to the experience I had when going to the toy store as a kid. Complete sensory overload.
They also have vintage and custom bikes on display and I saw this ‘79 CBX. It’s a build that is currently in progress, hence the missing exhaust. It uses the front and rear ends from a CBR1000. I think it looks pretty badass and I would love to hear it run. Thought you might like to see it.

If I could store my bikes like that I'd have room for more.

Not a big fan of them, but I have to say it, I think the proportions look a lot better with the wider wheels, swingarm and forks.

They are a little tail heavy with a smallish rear tire.  I have often considered going off the deep end on mine, but cannot bring myself to do it quite yet. Besides, I bought it from the original owner who had done some very nice, tasteful period mods and I think these customs are as deserving of preservation as are original specimens.

Interesting, but personally, I'd rather have my 1980 CBX back & be happy to have it, just like it was.

But once you take the blue pill and go down the custom rabbit hole, the gloves come off and the sky is the limit.

I’m still holding off going any further, but the thought is always in the back of my mind…

Nice job, on yours. But myself, the only change on mine, were done by my buddy who I bought it from (Black motor, except
for a few small covers being polished. Only changes I would like to have made, would have been to get an early set of
gauges, as they weren't as restrictive on engine rpm or motorcycle speed. While I have it, for about 6yrs or so, were to
mainly keep it clean, serviced and ridden. Now, IF I had a 2nd one & IF it needed some going through anyway, I MIGHT
have looked at making made some changes. Only change I even contemplated about doing to mine, was to see about a 6
into 1 exhaust, BUT, I found out that the system actually didn't work as well as thought. So, I dropped that idea. Just up to
each individual, as to what they will do.

Get tempted
For $17,500 you can get what amounts to a stock new CBX from Tim's CBX in Georgia. They look beautiful.
