Side kick CB 500 Four
« on: December 13, 2019, 11:38:35 AM »

I installed the 4 in 4 exhaust which was quite a job... I finally managed and man this it look better now! The only issue I have is with the side kick. The spring touches the pipe and I cannot use it without pushing the pipe inside. Does this happen to you? Any idea why this occurs?

Could you post a pic of the actual location of your side stand?
I mean where it is mounted on the frame..

Remco, I'd advice you first to check here if you've fitted the exhausts brackets correctly. Before I had them both on the outside of the frame eye which is wrong. One bracket is supposed to be on the outside of the frame eye and the other on the inside. http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,82323.msg925422.html#msg925422new Have you bent the brackets by any chance?

I think I installed well. Was quite a job but at the end it looks ok. I think that just the spring ofthe stand is giving problems. I need one with less diameter.

It looks a lot better with the 4-4 exhaust and also the sound is way nicer! Tomorrow I will fix the stand, if I cannot find a good spring I might just take the whole thing off for the time being.

I was very happy to find this original set!

You have the pipes installed incorrectly.  #1 header should be on the left of the side stand, and #2 header should be on the right side of it.

You have it wrong, number 2 goes on the inside of the stand  ;)

Like so  ;)

I'm actually kind of surprised you were able to mount them the way you did.  I think you'll find they go on a lot easier the other way.  Just make sure, like Deltarider said, to have one mounting bracket on the inside of the frame tab and the other one on the outside.

I owe many thanks to Sohron for his beautiful pictures* and detailed description and also Ashimoto who gave us pics that show how brackets can be checked for the correct shape. Helped me a lot. Glad to pass it on.
* Is it just me that now - thanks to Photobucket -has them blurred? Anyway, I've downloaded the Sohron CB550 Assembly Manual that shows them unblurred. So let me know.

I changed it to the right position. A shame I did not think of that yesterday... would have saved me a lot of blood & sweat lol. Now it is perfect. Thanks again!
