Topic: Front oil plug is leaking, lucky me :(!

Well after an engine rebuild on my 73’ 750 last May, my engine has sprung a leak right out the oil passage hole. I’ve heard here that the chance of that ever happening was slim, but I have the oil puddles to prove it. I have a new o ring for that sucker, now to that plug out. Any tips would be most welcome, thanks

Try a gentle tap with your impact driver and a hammer, it should shake loose.
If you don't have an impact driver, use a flat bladed screwdriver and hit the head while turning.
Be careful, don't strip the head out.

Would that be the "oil passage hole" that serves the oil tank with an o-ring fitting and two screws under the right rear area of the engine?  Or would it be the "oil passage hole" just below and to the rear of the ignition cover?  Those are the only three that I can think of that use an o-ring, in which case you might be able to change the o ring without losing too much oil by laying the bike on its side to do the work (drain the carbs first).  Or, you could make a fun game out of it...test your ninja mechanic skills by seeing if you can change the o-ring before all the oil runs out.  Maybe even one-handed with the other thumb blocking the open oil passage while you do the work.

How can that plug start to leak? It must have been removed before, right?
You need something that fit perfectly in its slit like a coin you can twist with a rigid wrench.

I have replaced a few without drama. Have you tried to remove it yet?

.  I’m as baffled as you are about why it began to leak, I’ve never touched it. Thanks for the coin suggestion, another member just suggested that trick, I’ll give a try tomorrow
