1985 v30 magna
« on: December 17, 2019, 04:53:32 AM »
Good morning. Scott here. Not sure if this is the category for this question but I'm looking at a 1985 v30 magna. It seems to be in pretty good shape but is not currently running. Has been garage kept & sitting for about 10 yrs. It has about 8,000 mile on it. The owner says it will need carb cleaning. Any ideas on this? Anything I should look out for? Thanks.

Scott go to V4MuscleBike.com. That is where the experts for the Honda V4's are. And yes the carbs will need to be cleaned. It is more difficult than inline 4 bikes but there are good tutorials on there plus MagnAndy knows everything there is to know about those carbs and will rebuild them if you don't want to.
The Honda V4's are great motors that punch well above their weight. I outrun bigger bikes all the time with my 84' Sabre 700.

Stretch is going to tell you the same thing, he is also on V4MuscleBike. I have been riding Honda V4's since they started selling them in 82', I had one of the first V45 Sabres in the country. I currently have an 84' Sabre, the first one wore out after 140k miles of hard riding. 8)

Isnt there some problem with oil delivery to rear cylinders?  Just a unclear memory here  ;D

Some claim there is an issue but I don't think so. I have put a lot of hard miles on mine and never had a problem. I don't know anyone that has had an issue. The guy promoting the issue is the same person that was selling the cure. I think Honda got it right so I will keep flirting with disaster and skip the cure. ;D

My buddies v65 magna shelled 2nd gear right after warranty expiered.
Honda provided the redesigned wider second for free anyway.. I put it in while he and my other buddies drank 🍺. What I remember most was all the internal chains chains chains. That 65 was the first bike that took me to the "danger zone ". A six speed over with the power to pull everyone of them. It had a very nervous front end if you took both hands of the bars for any amount of time.

Ive noticed all of the V65's for sale on facebook marketplace. If I had a shortage of bikes I'd probably pick out a nice one.
