Charging Standard battery with AGM charger
« on: December 18, 2019, 08:34:12 AM »
Just a quick question, and btw after 10 pages google showed no answer, can you charge lead acid standard motorcycle battery with agm charger? I know you can’t use standard charger on agm batteries but my question is the other way around. I have a bmw agm charger/maintainer we use to charge when in vacations.
BTW, the charger/maintainer specs are 12v 1.25A
Thank you in advance for your assistance

AGM charging is no different than lead-acid battery charging. If you have a lithium battery, they need special charging .

AGM batteries are often confused with GEL batteries, because they are both sealed and don't ever need topping up with demineralised water. And gel batteries are prone to overcharging. AGM are just like normal lead/acid batts, only the Acid is contained in Glass Matts.

To the OP.

It will probably work without issue.  IIRC AGM charged to about 0.1-0.2 less but the main reason is that you don't want to charge to a higher voltage as they can dry out.   Doing a flooded battery on a AGM will get it close for sure..
