Nice collection it was.
I see you had some Jawas too, good for you!
Thank you, appreciate that. Yeah, I was sort of raised around not only Indian's, from my Granddad's Indian motorcycle shop, but Jawa, CZ, ESO, BSA, Royal Enfield, among others.
currently have a Jawa 250 (that I drug my feet on getting finished, a couple of GZ175s & my original little Jawa 50cc (that was originaly a moped style (no pedals though) modified ride (it needs to be resurrected as well).
My 1st "Streetable" motorcycle, was a 1958 Jawa 125 ( that I had to actually put together, for my 1st motorcycle) that was titled as a 1958. but there was a mix of parts in that one. Dad told me that he got his 1st motorcycle that way and I was going to do the same thing as he had to do. I had just become 13 in March and there I was, in May, starting the build of my 1st ride. It wasn't until a bit later, that I fully realized what a "Gift" my Dad had given me and that my Granddad had given my Dad.
Neat story. My first bike was CZ250, simple, reliable 2 stroke.
Nice, that you had the CZ250. My Dad built a Jawa 250, back in the early 1960's and while I don't remember much about what the sources were, for all of the Jawa parts he had, to work with, I have a feeling that the motor might have actually been a Perak 250. I am wondering about this, because it did not have the traditional Gearshift, that also served as the kickstarter. His had 2 individual items (kick starter gearshift). After the Perak's, as any owner would know, the Jawas from the 125 models, to the 350 Twin, had the gearshift serve also as the kickstarter. Now, the 250-35o - 6 Day Trials & the Motocross models, MAY have had individual Gearshift & kick starter, I don't remember for sure. I only saw a 250 6 Day Trials (we called them Scramblers, back then) And I never saw a Motocross model. Anyway, back to what I was getting at. My Dad built a 250 Jawa, using his ideas, about wheel size & such and used "Trials information", from the Factory, to build that 25 Motor, into a Screamer. And anyone who knows the old Jawas, knows that Jawas were kind of like VWs, they were cheap to buy, dependable, but not a Screamer. My Dad's didn't even SOUND like a 2 stroke, when idling or when getting it on down the road.
But, I have to say, it is always good to hear from someone who not only knows something about the old Jawas, but also had one.
