sure...no sweat.  ...but I do nearly 100 miles almost everytime I go riding.  And I go riding anytime I have a few spare daylight hours which means generally at least once monday thru fri., and then saturday and sunday.  As weather allows...

Let's just say, I from my old riding friends am tired of hearing their excuses, and no nd or very little riding. And I like riding so long as I have a good runner, tank of gas, and a few coins for a quart of beer..
So mainly it's a bit of a prod to get people to go riding, and just freaking do it.
So of course a SOHC would be ideal..

And besides doing it on a late model  big modern bike, of course is not a big deal, most new bike get ridden a lot anyway..

Yep, for me, bikes have always been a passion, but for many, they're just a fashion. The amount of retirees I see selling their bikes because "I'm not riding much any more" pisses me off, retirees have fcuk all else to do but ride their bikes, so why aren't they? Sure, if they're unable due to health issues, fair enough, but if it's just that they can't get off their lazy fat asses, well that's just piss weak. My biggest problem is finding a balance between bike builds, and riding, because when I'm not at work, that's all I do. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I want to make a T shirt  with all the excuses listed on there.  Very tired of it..
Like this one.. in 1, 2 , 3, 4 or 5 years I am retiring, then I will ride more.. yeah like  I am going to wait, and then you are probably in a walker anyway or dead.. ..lol..

Well over here you can retire at 65 to get the old age pension (or 67 in my case, but I won't be waiting until then, if all goes well) and my two best mates both took early retirement at 60, so all going well, they'll have 20 years of good riding as long as their health continues.

According to the DVA, (VA in the US) I'm 80% incapacitated, so most rides begin with me swallowing a handful of Tramadol before I start. They're no good when I'm driving as they make me drowsy, but that's not an issue when I'm riding my bikes. I went for a ride a couple of years ago and bumped into 3 "senior Citizens" riding "Yama-Harleys" and had a chat with them, two were in their late 70's, and one was 83! I really hope that if I live to 83, I can still ride, even if it's a motor scooter........... ;D

I would have to push myself. If i ride to work and back, its usually 40 miles total - my office is less than 2 miles from my home.

When i get inspired it might be 15 in the morning and 60 to 80 going home; i would have to make the effort to reach a hundred. But I will try, Frank :)

I did it often , 3 times in a weekend several times a month..
Anyway, I just want to make sure I get a lot of rides in, getting harder to get on and off the bike  when it's loaded with stuff.

My buddy Jonesy and I are going on a big trip every year plus a bunch of shorter rides. Last year we went to Montana, South Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho and Oregon. About 4k miles. This year we are going to ride down into northern California to meet up with some friends from Arizona. I ride a lot in season doing errands and stuff, it is 12 miles to town and back. I make a habit of forgetting stuff so I have to go back to town. 8)

I'm thinking of commuting to work by bike next year. It's a 50 mile return trip and not very exciting as it's mostly freeways, but I'll save a few bucks on parking, (I can park my bike in the barracks for free) so probably worth risking my neck for the cause. Might be a good reason to get the new (old) Yamaha XS650 on the road, it's a tad narrower than my CB750, so easier to squeeze between cars in heavy traffic. ;D

The western hemispheres relationship with motorcycles is so much different than the east side of the planet.

Bikes used to be a utilitarian purchase.  Wether it was HD servicar of the Honda Cub.

Somewhere along the way, the west decided that 4 wheeled things would be the go to chassis for all the work related transportation accessories.  With the exception of some crummy three wheeled things that would have been safer give or take 1 wheel.

Alas, the motorcycle was relegated to a pleasure seekers (thrill seekers too) purchase.  The consumer relationship with the motorcycle wasn't one of practicality or necessity anymore.

I hope Terry has a fun and safe experience as a moto commuter.  Motorcycling every day can be good for ones health.  Since these machines require a little more of their operator than the mindless zombie 4 wheeled cage.

Thanks Cowman, when I was a poor Army Sergeant supporting a family and some dogs and cats, we only had one car and one bike, so I rode the bike to work every day. I loved it, but riding in and out of the city in peak hour traffic is a recipe for disaster. I was happy to survive, but usually had one close call each way, every day.

When I left the Army I was given a job that came with a car, so for the next 12 years I commuted in the company car. In Canberra, for the 18 months I was there, I rode my Yamaha FJR1300 or BMW R1100GS every day, because I loved the ride and the parking was free for bikes. Last year I plucked up the courage to commute on the BMW again, but Melbourne traffic is diabolical at the best of times, and I arrived at work a nervous wreck. Oh well, I'll give it another crack in 2020, and see how I go. I can save a lot of dough using the bike rather than a car, so there are benefits attached, but I am conscious of the fact that I'm not getting any younger (60 in March) and us old farts take a lot longer to heal. ;D

I'm in. I don't have a target, but that's pretty close to what I do: 2031 miles this season.  I didn't make to Stockbridge, Gilmore, HF Motor Muster either, life and bad weather beat grandpas joy rides every time.
I have pretty much covered all the decent roads within range of a day ride, and out of range of the crazy cagers. I haven't done an overnighter, or weekender in the years since putting my CB back in service. Meridian road splits the state in half and I don't venture too far beyond. But I have warned my bride that on some sunny Saturday when everything is right, I'll just continue on westward and take a room near Lake Michigan. That would be the next step for me, just have to make it happen. The CB is capable, but a Wing with a big fairing and a plush seat would make it easy(easier).
I like a winding country road with good asphalt, but there's hardly a curve that requires a downshift around here. A move to Tennessee or Colorado might be good for me. The CB and its sweet motor music is stellar going through the gears, and a set of upshifts at 6500-7000rpm will always make my blood boil.

Good idea Dave, I'm sure I'll fail miserably because I don't even have an engine in my K2 at the moment, and I want to ride my other bikes when I'm not building another bike, but I'll wander out to the garage and snap a shot of my speedo later today.

My K2 is currently fitted with K1 gauges, which I may steal back if I can get my K1 build going, so I bought a really good set of K2 gauges in the US, but good old MyUS.com's useless box packers destroyed them, so now I have to find another set, or fix these ones, which may mean adjusting my mileage accordingly, when and if I find another set, or get these ones fixed. ;D

My annual mileage on bikes has come way down since I quit commuting on the 750 after we both were hit by a pickup truck in July 2018. By this time last year it finally looked good as far as keeping my left foot.  Thanks to modern surgical techniques and a lot of talented people not only do I still have my left foot, I can use it as one.  Shifting is slow and deliberate due to some loss of range of motion in the ankle, but doable. I was able to get in 4500 touring miles last summer in two different rides plus a lot of local rides. The 750 was the first bike I rode after fixing the damage to it. What a feeling that was. Did about 80 miles on the CBR last weekend. So I am with you Frank.

Wow, that must have hurt mate! Did it do much damage to the bike? I think you've had it from new, from memory? I suppose we should also take into consideration that some folks here are retired/not working, so week day rides shouldn't come into the equation, to keep it fair? As much as I'd love to say I'll be riding to work every day, I probably won't, as it's a logistical nightmare to get my bikes out on the road at 5am, when I usually leave for work. ;D

I admire your courage Greg.
I'm happy to hear that you are (mostly) recovered and enjoying motorcycling. I'd  like nothing better than to tag along with you and visit some of your lonesome Idaho roads (the ones without the pickup trucks) but I'm pretty sure you would leave me in the dust.... and it's a long way from here to Idaho.
