20 Rides 100miles or more, in 2020..
« Reply #225 on: May 30, 2020, 04:01:13 PM »
Ride #3 (1st one on the CB350F) is in the books.  Got out on the road early this morning with the intention of riding about 200 miles.  Was supposed to be a dry sunny, but cooler day, perfect for a longer ride.  I installed a windscreen yesterday and was looking forward to riding with it.
Headed west and south around the lake only to see very dark clouds approaching.  I pulled over and checked two weather apps and no forecast of rain .  Ended up changing my route to dodge the rain clouds.  I did find a few new twisty roads and managed to stay warm and dry so not all bad but only just hit the 100 mile mark.

Got my first 100 mile ride in yesterday but as you can see from the trip meter - just barely. I finally got enough of the bike put back together last week after a winter teardown (mostly engine work) and it was ready for a shakedown ride. Unfortunately the weather between Puget Sound and Mt. Rainier was a bit on the cool side yesterday and Saturday was solid rain. Had to stop sixty miles into the ride long enough for blood flow to return to my finger tips. The good news is the bike performed flawlessly.

Ride #2 100 miles on a sunny Sunday. Beautiful springtime countryside, boats on the lake, kayaks in the river, flowers blooming, lilac and honeysuckle scent in the air.

Nobody wearing the required face masks when in public, and a lone demonstrator at the local PD. I didnt know ACAB but the young gal demonstrator had a big ACAB sign. Some folks learning to hate, having their heads filled with BS like "ACAB". All officers being punished for the iniquities of the few. I'm off the podium now.
PD was setting up defense around city campus, but no trouble here overnight, and none expected. I dont think we have a curfew, but we do have a stay at home order.

Frank, I might be done with the "proof required" photos, if you will forgive me. "Proof required" was mandated for workers taking too many sick days - when you werent sick. Being a retired guy, I dont have to deal with that anymore. You will see that my gauge faces are ragged, and there is a black streak across the 8 on the odo. I have the new faces from Lecram, but I let the gauge faces remind me just how old this CB really is. I should turn over 90000 next year, unless something big happens. I hope the rest of the numbers are legible. Too much dri-slide used in the distant past.

A reminder,  I dont think I ever asked for Speedo photos.. maybe I did ?. But I always suggested recording it for your self, I use a day planner, try to jog down where you went and try to get some scenic photos.. keepa personal record.
So it looks like we have a 250 as the smallest bike..
And a rain ride perhaps or partial rain ride..
I suppose we will have to have a hard luck ride  :'( category too..
Who knows , you may win some   :o Mogen David 20-20...  :o

My friend just did 140 miles in heavy downpour over the pass last weekend. It was on a nice new rebel 500. I was following in the truck white knuckling the wheel!

Well, it looks like the 350f is 347cc, so I will try and hop on my 350 twin this weekend (325cc) and beat it ;)

I have done +200km (125miles) rides every day for almost 2 weeks now. Before shorter rides, around half.

My K6 has done 5000 km this season since end of March so time for oil change and a new rear tire that I replaced last winter.

My CB350f is the smallest four but my first two 100 mile rides were on the RD250 .

Ride #4 today on the Honda.  I added a tank bag (another great NOS purchase from a shop that shut down last yr) and headed out to Brantford on the hwy and then back along some beautiful winding country roads.  Stopped and had a bagged lunch in Ancaster and rode around Dundas before heading north and east for more twisties.  The skies were sunny and clear which made it all the more enjoyable.  Total miles = 122.5

I may head to Niagara Falls later this week.

Haven't pulled off any 500 mile days lately.

But can ad 2 more 100's to the total.

And a 96 mile that deserves an honorable mention.  Two hours of rocky roads.  My rocky, I mean boulders.

North Mt. Lemmon road is not suitable for passenger cars 😝

#10 in the bag today. As much as I would have loved to go over to the storage joint and drag my old BMW K100RS out and fire it up, being a public holiday, they were only open from 10am - 2pm, and to be honest, the old "Bavarian Murder Weapon" will likely need some work before it's safe to ride, and considering my recent problem pushing my VFR750 home, I decided to take old reliable, my 1994 Harley Sportster out for a big lap. I was that excited to get out of the house forgot to take a pic of the odo before I left, but stopped for gas 20 Km from home, so took a pic then.

Queens Birthday Ride 2020 5 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

After copping a speeding fine on my previous favourite route back in April I've re-discovered a better (safer) route devoid of mobile speed detection camera vehicles, hopefully. My right shoulder and arm were killing me before I even left home, so I took an old prescription only anti-inflammatory (I'm not allowed to have them anymore after some recent surgery) before I left. I discovered that while it reduced the pain in my shoulder and arm, it didn't do anything for the jolting impacts thru my poor battered spine as I went over lots of bumps in the road, regardless of the Ikon gas shocks doing a great job of absorbing the lesser shocks.

Anyhoo, I had a great ride, and stopped for a lunch break in a little town called Kilmore, where I had lunch with a couple of other bikers I was chatting with at a charcoal chicken place, sitting outside enjoying inhaling the cigarette smoke that one of them was  trying not to blow in our general direction. not realising that as an ex-smoker, I still love the smell of tobacco smoke.

I haven't washed the bike this year, so after all these rides it was looking a tad filthy. I stopped at a car wash on the way back to give it a quick wash. The only bay not taken was flooded after some 4 wheeler had washed a few hundred pounds of mud off his truck. (note the mud up the wall) Anyway, I gave the old Sporty a quick wash, then realised that I'd dropped my right glove in the puddle. Being waterproof, it had filled up like a bucket and I still had 20 miles to ride home with my hand in a wet glove in 47 deg F temps.

Oh well, I stopped again at the 150 Km (94 mile) mark to refuel, thinking that with a 12 litre tank I'd probably been running on fumes for the last few miles. To my surprise, I'd only used 7 litres? Wow, 62 MPG (Imperial gallons) is pretty handy considering it's not a real big tank.

Anyway, #10 is in the bag, and hopefully if I can get my big blue Yamaha FJR1300 re-registered this week (It flew thru it's "Roadworthy Inspection" on Saturday) I can do a longer ride next weekend, if I'm not busy building Kawasaki engines. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Terry, you are half way there (10 of 20)

I completed #5 yesterday.  Headed down to Niagara-on-the-lake and then Niagara Falls.  Took the long way home.  All in, about 184 miles (almost 300 km).

Hey Robbo, I thought you might be visiting the floral clock at Niagara. Is it still there?
It looks like you had a great ride on a great day.

Kevin, it’s still there but no flowers were planted so it’s basically a big dirt clock at the moment.  I pulled in, went to the bathroom, and carried on. A bit sad really .

Good job Robbo, and I love your 350/4, I restored one back in 1996 and now I've lost 150 pounds I wouldn't mind another one. ;D

What were the passes  like , the one near us was  about 29 degrees early this morning.
And I heard of  one in Idaho with 8 inches of snow this morning..

Nice  ride I think I rode part of that ride long ago.

Ride 3 143 miles, 45 mpg, sunshine, 80f+
I think our lockdown is ended so I made it out to Meridian road today. Traffic was light, very nice, but learned that my favorite road out of town is going to be closed tomorrow for 2 months for construction of a roundabout.
There's a new park off Meridian road that has the first survey markers established in Michigan. The markers have been there over 200 years, way back in the woods, but the park is new. I didn't take the 1 1/2 mile hike to the markers, but I will go back with my bride or my son. The comments made by Tiffin on the historical marker were amusing: It may be the first time on record that an Ohioan trash talked Michigan, 20 years before Michigan became a state.

Meridian road has been my self imposed border for my day rides.  4-5 hours riding time plus an hour or so respite in the easy chair afterwards. So you don't have too much to worry about Eric.  :)
I get to Jackson (Seymour rd) and Mason (Dexter trail) once in a while. There's no Gilmore meet this year that I know of, to bring me to Hickory Corners. Gilmore meet is an all day adventure for me.
