Put on a relaxed 105mi doing touristy stuff today.

Got to see an SR-71 on display.  Good times.
Bomber, please tell us where you are in the world; I can't keep up. ;D

I'm trying to limit my location disclosures because I still get that "hair on the back of my neck" feeling that I'm being followed.

I was curious and looked back, apparently in reply #5:
So of course a SOHC would be ideal....

So ride what you have, when people start hitting 20 it'll probably come up in the discussion again.
Well hey, at least folks are out riding, of course it's better if the are on a sohc. If someone gets the 20 in on newer bikes, well that is just a lot easier than an old bike. Much cooler doing it on an old one....

Oh now I'm hurt, my CB750 has a blown gearbox, I'm halfway thru 2 Kawasaki builds, but because I'm riding a 19 year old bike with 147,000 miles on the clock, I'm somehow cheating? I'm 60 years old, have had 4 major and 8 minor operations in the last 2 years, had a heart attack in 2014, and am carrying many permanent injuries from my 43 years in the Army, but I'm somehow doing it easy? Wow! This threads rules just get tougher and tougher! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Go back and read again terry.  Nobody said anything like that.  If you are only riding so you can get a bunch of praise in this thread, not much point...well, nice job terry.  Keep riding all your bikes.  We love your posts!

Sean, we have both suffered (no rides) through our lockdown, and now its Terrys turn be locked down. So get your rides in while he has a lengthy pit stop. There is (maybe) a bottle of MD20 at stake! :)

....and, I just wanted to say that I voted (several times :o) for your Goldie as BOTM. It is a good running beaut that you are continuously improving. Do you ever take it to Gingerman, Grattan, or the dragstrip? I would guess you might have a 12sec CB.

Lets keep hoping that nobody gets this garbage thats not going away so easy.

ha ha Kevin, I do my hundred miler a few times a week...usually having too much fun to figure out some photo ops then I have always been a lazy poster.  I can never get damn digital equipment to do what I want and find it often very frustrating.  But I forgot about the Mad Dog!  That is some encouragement to get back at the posting!  In reality, I probably completed 20 rides a few weeks ago.

I really need to put together something for trackdays.  Only problem with that is the old stuff I like is just gonna get ate up by little kids on modern 250's.  Realistically, I would have more fun and organisers would be happier with me just getting a used 600 super sport.  I have not been to the drag strip in years.  I managed mid 13's on a much slower combo than what I have now and I had terrible reaction times and 60'.  Don't ever let anyone tell you that launching a cb750 is easy.  It takes a lot of throttle and clutch control.

Today I rode 258 miles on my 94' Kawasaki ZG1000 Concours from my house over the North Cascades Hwy 20 to Wenatchee WA with my buddy on his 04' FJR. It rained 2/3rds of the way but the weather protection is outstanding on the first generation Concours. 8)

Kelly hope the sun was shining in Winthrop.
Sean reaction time does not make a diff to your  ET.
A race between 2 racers is  RT plus ET, but who gets there first. So slower ET can win at times.

Thanks Sean, I'd never heard of "riding for praise", is that a thing? I've been riding for over 50 years now, so for me, this is a passion, not a fashion. I've been enjoying this thread though, and it contributed to me getting off my butt and getting my big blue Yamaha back on the road after a 4 year layoff, so it would have been my regular "Winter  Ride" if it wasn't for Covid 19 locking me down until Spring (hopefully that'll be the last lockdown.

No biggie, it'll give me time to complete my projects, I might even get my CB750's gearbox fixed by the warmer months so I can do some rides on it too. ;D

Bracket, or "handicap" racing, Sean. ;) You set your dial in, the start time is adjusted for your dial in time, as well as your opponents. First one across the finish line without going faster than their dial in time wins. ;D

Not that I don't have confidence in Honda CB's.
FJ's are just way better suited to carrying everything along for the trip.

Looked through my ride log.  Nearly 11,000 miles in 40 days and suffice to say.  20 of those were over 100 miles.

I guess this post was kinda confusing.  I was talking about both road racing and drag racing and did not make that clear...track days equal road course not drag racing...so, at least the way they run them around here, passing is restricted in the slower classes so everybody has to stay behind the slower riders, at least in the corners and inside.  Then everybody else is not having fun.  Faster groups passing is less restricted so a slow bike becomes a safety issue.  Very uncommon for guys to bring vintage stuff so it presents a problem to organizers, thus probably would just be easier for everyone to get a used modern 600.  Been trying to figure out if I can get excited about that or not.

Frank...you are right about reaction time, not sure what I was thinking other than my reaction times and 60 ft times were really slow.

Xwhat i said applies to heads up starts as well.
Yeah frank, it was a heads up grudge race night and whether reaction time added to my et or not, I was not able to beat my buddie's souped up Ironhead  unless he missed a shift, and he did miss a few.  I think he ran one 13.10, mostly 13.2/3 or so.  I would be chasin him down, probably catch him if it was 1/3 mile.  Anyway, I got lots of runs and it was real fun.  As Kevin said my bikes continue to develop where his Sportster rarely gets ridden any more.  Pretty sure, I would get him now.  The drag strip by my home is pretty well attended so you are usually only gonna get a couple runs at say test and tune night.  That is why I generally dont go.

Geez that's interesting, no trip meter on the CL350, my 1983 Honda XR500RE had a trip meter, but no odometer? It was Honda's version of an "Enduro" bike at the time, and I guess they thought that racers only needed a trip meter to calculate fuel stops? ;D

  trip meter

Maybe CB750 was the first Honda bike to have a trip meter?

Honda 60s-early70s dirt bikes “Scramblers” weren’t  too much more than a CB with high pipes, a braced handlebar, no ribbed front tire, chopped front fender, gaiters on the forks. What else did I forget JakeC?
I had a 1970 SL100 which was a baby step for Honda towards a proper dirt bike. It came with trials tires, a high unsprung  front fender, but I don’t remember a trip meter.

I’m missing the Motorera site where you could check details like that.

If you are referring to the 400, the bike is running well, small nitpicks since I finished:

speedo bouncing

paint peeling on master cylinder

and uneven discoloration on the pipes.

I have a friend's carb sync right now so I may pull the carbs and go through once before sync.

I just got home from 4 days and 698 miles in eastern Wa. We rode over to Grand Coulee Dam and some back roads in the area. Coming home on Sunday Hwy. 20 was busy and Winthrop was a 15 minute traffic jam to get through. We usually try to do our rides on weekdays but we couldn't leave until Thursday this time.
I ride my 94' Kawasaki Concours on these rides, it was built for this. My buddy rides his 04' FJR. Road trips on these liter plus sport touring bikes is a blast. They are a little heavy at around 700lbs since I only weigh 130lbs but as soon as you are rolling the weight seems to disappear. The upside is they handle great, carry your stuff, they are comfortable and have the power to get around the motorhomes, trailers and Hardley parades when you need to. 8)
I live in the country and it's a great place to ride all the other bikes but when it's road trip time I always take the big bike. ;D

Yeah mate, you gotta love those big Sport tourers, they'll do 100 MPH all day, go around corners, and stop, pretty much all the things that the old bikes don't do so well.  They're really good in winter too, when most SOHC4 guys are just dreaming about riding. ;D

Ride #7 140 miles 48 mpg 84f

A gorgeous day for riding. It has been blazing hot and humid but we have had a break this week. On average 12? 90f days per year, but we are coming off a stretch of 9 straight at 90+f and we are going back into the hotbox tomorrow. So I got out early today and enjoyed almost every minute excepting when the f150 passed me on the left while I was turning left.
