It's not the inside of my head that choose helmet, It's the outside. ;)
Helmet must fit well without causing pain.

That's a good point Dave, I've still got my flying jacket in the spare room, it'll probably be a bit loose on me, for the first time in 20 years.......... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

Arai doesn't use internal drop down visors, they don't believe in interrupting the integrity of the helmet design to incorporate one. Their flip down is external and a optional visor system.
One difference between their approach and others.

Thanks David, I've only ever bought one Shoei helmet, that was back in 1982, and someone stole it. It didn't fit my head anyway, so wasn't fussed. I bought a new Bell Tour Star, it was terrible, worst helmet I've had (worse than the Chinese knockoff) The army issued me either Shoeis or AGV's and I always chose the AGV's, once again, Italian helmets, maybe I've got an Italian head? I think that like our choice of bikes, cars, protective clothing etc, we've all got our likes and dislikes.

I find it hard to believe that somehow Shoei can't design a helmet with an internal visor that can withstand their rigorous testing when other manufacturers can? Or is it that they can sell an optional visor system and screw the consumer out of a few more bucks for something the other manufacturers have been giving us for free? Yeah yeah, I understand, sponsoring Moto GP stars costs a lotta moola, so I guess they have to wrestle that last dollar out of their loyal followers? I think I'll stick with my Nolan, I've seen the episode of "How it's made" at the Nolan factory, and am pretty comfortable that my noggin is in good hands......... ;D

The HJC with the retractable sunscreen does not have a (top notch?) Snell rating. I don’t know about the Nolan. What I have noticed about the sunscreen that I like so much, is that the unfinished bottom edge rests right upon my (too large) Wilson nose. Any significant jostling would, I think, give me the nose job that I have always needed :) Also, there are also moving parts with latches, springs, pointy things near my forehead and my temples. Such is the price for the convenience of having the sunscreen available there when it’s needed.
Is the bottom edge of the Nolan sunscreen finished with a smooth bead?
I also checked the country of origin and was disappointed to find this HJC Is from Vietnam. HJC is a Korean company, and I have a fair amount of confidence in Korean products and their QC. Vietnam manufacturing quality is unknown to me apart from my current 9yr old HJC IS33, which is a nice product. I think we get some Honda parts from Vietnam, yes?

Thanks Kevin, no the shade on mine is nowhere near my poor battered proboscis (broken at least 4 times, the latest in November last year) and it's made from shatter proof polycarbonate, but if I sailed thru the air and head first thru the windscreen of a pickup truck, well, all bets are off.

HJC must be like Nike or Adidas (or Levis, disappointingly) who farm around Asia for the cheapest labor costs. A mate of mine had a HJC a few years ago that was made in China, and back then, no-one bought any safety equipment from China. Korea is fine, Hyundais are incredibly well made, and Stinko tyres are OK. (better than the tyres Honda had on CB750's back in the day, I owned a new CB750F and the Bridgestone tyres it was shod with were foul) I think Vietnam is becoming the new China as far as manufacturing goes, so there is probably very good, and very poor quality items there, in equal proportions.

The Nolan is Italian, and excellent quality. I won't be changing brands unless they move their operation to China, who can get fcuked. ;D

You'll have to try a Ginger Joe Dave, 3.2 standard drinks per 500ml bottle, or a Ginger Terry, 5 or 6 standard drinks per bottle and a sleep is guaranteed, usually halfway through that bottle.......... ;D

About helmets.. if your head is more box like, Schubert might be something?

I have a flip-up C3 Pro. Bought another one with color better matching my brown K2. (Bronze). The blue-white for my blue K6.

They also have an open helmet.
https://www.schuberth.com/en/products/motorbikes/helmets/m1-pro.html

C4 is for sport bikes where rider hang more over tank.
That was a quick add-on for those riders. C4 Pro is the corrected version of C4.

The first test station is my head, if helmet from a quality brand does not get full points by a tester, not the first prio for me.
I do not trust all testers, might give less points to those who do not pay them.....

A full face helmet with filtered breathing system might be the future?

Riot safe too, should withstand a sledge hammer or sharp axe from any angle ;)

If sliding off the road into a dense forest in 100 mph... What protect us then?

Ride #9 137 mi, 48.6 mpg, 86f
I set out at 10am with my jacket on and 74f but by lunchtime it was warming up quite a bit so the jacket got strapped to the seat for the afternoon. My favorite road out, 7 mile, is still under construction at Pontiac Trail. A traffic circle is replacing the 4way red flasher and should be done in early August. Another road that I use quite a bit is Cavanaugh Lake. They have just started a bridge replacement west of Chelsea and that might carry on for a good long while.
I stopped in at Ann Arbor at the University and snapped a photo of the Cube. It is a large black steel cube on a bearing so it can be spun. The last time I was by here this drive and the plaza were surrounded by construction barrels. It’s pretty quiet here today.

Gettin' to be oil change time Kevin with all those nice long rides you have been doing !

I’m glad you are paying attention for me Eric. I’m asleep in the seat. I have generally been a once per season oil change guy. But because I have these handy odometer photos right here, I can see that I have been 1449 miles this year. As the riding season is about 1/2 done, it’s just about right for a mid season 1500 mile oil change.
I need to broaden my riding horizons a bit. In the past I was a weekend rider, these retirement days I’m more of a weekday rider. At Napoleon, there is a (weekend) skydiving operation, fun to watch, Maybe maybe someday. Near Gregory, Sandhill Soaring club offering weekend rides. I have been up 1 time in a 2seater Grob, very nice, up 45 minutes and we could have stayed up a lot longer, fun to watch.
I’m still a bit behind on the 20 for 20 mark due to the lockdown late start, I should be ok if it doesn’t snow on October 1st or Heaven forbid we go back on lockdown. I need to get out the door earlier, if I’m going to the Saturday Gilmore Ride I need to make a 7am departure. That’s not so easy for an old(er) guy.
New clutch is working very well, no slip on hard 2-3 or 3-4 shifts where it used to give up. :) :)

Yesterday I rode the 79' CB750F that we just finished a ground up on, then the 84' VF700S Sabre after replacing a fork seal and finished the day riding the 05' Fatboy. I have been riding so many different bikes lately that my feet are confused about where the footpegs are. ;D
In a week I am going on another four day ride. 8)

Replaced the 9 year old original rubber on the NC with some Michelin Road 5 and thought no better place to break them in than Southern Ohio.....

I'm starting to think SR 374 in Hocking Hills is more fun than the more widely known SR 555.  Down and back came to 236.9 miles, averaged 76.65 mpg.  I'm loving this NC700X lol

That is a me funky tread pattern Michelin uses on the Road 5s. Glad you are liking the new bike. Ever bought one you didn't like? That would be my fear.

Lol  I can't honestly say I have, but this bike is really different and had me wondering for awhile.  With the old hard and squared off Metzeler tires replaced, my confidence has been restored.

That's right, a very different beast from my trusty ol 550 four.  It's got great low end power and a low center of gravity which made a great combination for the twisty SRs in Southern Ohio.  The Road 5s are soft and grip like crazy.  Hope I can get some decent mileage out of them.

I love the Michelin Pilots on my VFR750, I replaced the Pilot 1's with Pilot 3's in 2016, and I'll certainly entertain the thought of upgrading to 5's or 6's when the 3's wear out, eventually. ;D

About those tires.
Metzeler make a tire that look not that different. Roadtec 01, radial as first versions.

The best thing is that they make a version for our old CBs too!! :D
4.0-18, front 3.25-19 plus the mm versions. X-ply.

That's good to know Per, I hated Mestzlers when I had BMW's, they were sh1t, but the ones on my Triumph Rocket III have been very good, so I might think about some for my Z1 when the new Stinko's wear out. ;D

That is a me funky tread pattern Michelin uses on the Road 5s. Glad you are liking the new bike. Ever bought one you didn't like? That would be my fear.

I rode GS850G"s for a while after I sold Terry all my old 750's about 20 years ago and within their capabilities they're not a bad bike, super comfy for long distances
After a few of then I fit a chance to get hold of a GS850GK, which is the factory Vetter fairi ( for the seriously nerdy the GKE model came with panniers and top box )
Sold the others to get it, bit of electrical love and       whate a fcuking whale of a thing, much slower, worse brakes and suspension , a total #$%*heap
It was at that point I decided no more old #$%*heaps , sold that without ever riding it further than down the street
Bought a Vmax and one day it's possible I might regret it
i blame Terry
