Looks like your going to make 20 Kevin. September and October is great riding weather usually and it always fun when the colors are turning.

Thanks Per, but more accounts with usernames and passwords??? I have too many of those already and am going reluctantly into the new world.

I’m getting closer to 20 Eric, and the sun is shining, but still a ways to go. Yes, September and October are great but August is looking pretty good so far.
Last I heard from Sean is that the Saturday Vintage Ride at Gilmore was OFF, have you heard any different?

Ride #14 121 miles, 46 mpg, 76f
My mpg is not slipping. I just refilled a bit shy last time giving me 50 last time. I try to put the fuel level at the neck of the tank, but as you know, not every pump valve works as well as another.
Another nice day, a bit cooler and the humidity is down. I wore my jacket for the entire ride. All the gliders were out today, I have never seen that before, usually just on the weekend.

2 more rides done for 13 total. About 150+ each out to the coast and back via different routes.. I won’t put a map because I’ve already done this route before. But this time I took 2 relatively new riders along for their first “long” ride and first overnight trip as well. One guy has a 400 who lives down the street from me, the other guy is the person I recently sold my gold 350 to.

I’m really enjoying using the 350 for these long trips mostly due to the riding position I think. It was leaking so much oil this trip I was filling up oil at every gas stop. So I’m thinking about doing a top end so I can keep using it for trips and maybe some light off-road adventuring one day too. I’m looking into getting the 362cc racing kit for arma.

Ride #15  131 miles  48 mpg  90 f  sunny

The heat is back on today for a few days. It was nice when I left this morning, nice while moving, not so nice when stopped this afternoon. I got a new long sleeve tshirt that keeps the sun off of my arms, brightest orange, Dickies Temp-IQ, it worked for me.
I counted 11 “loose stones” signs today that indicate recent paving, and that’s a handful less than last time out. Also no fresh tar, to make post ride cleanup difficult. I’m still not confident in the corners, the loose stones are generally in the center of each lane, but if you have to change your line it won’t be pretty. So the pucker factor is still there, although less than before, and it will likely be less next time out.

Well done Kevin, I'm still weeks off due to the current lockdown, but our numbers are going down, so hopefully I'll be allowed out to kick off ride #15 soon. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

We are not taking a vacation this summer, to the lake, the mountains, the seashore, the national parks. So these day rides are my vacation. I have a good shot now at making the 20 rides, might turn 90000mi on ride 20, or maybe just before.
If the virus would cool off, I’d like to take a couple days and go to southern Ohio in the Appalachian foothills, where BallAquatics has been riding. I have been there before, long ago, with my CB, and I know the riding is good. But staying in hotels and visiting all the restaurants is not a good strategy for an unhealthy GHOF like me.
Hopefully Terry, your lockdown will be lifted early so you can get back on the road.

Thanks Kevin, and I'm very impressed that you've had the bike since new and have almost clocked up 90,000 miles, well done! I'm hoping that the restrictions will be lifted by October so I can do a huge ride, from the bottom of Australia where I live, to the top of Australia (Darwin) where my mate Mick lives, stopping along the way in Brisbane to see my little sister and her family, then Cannonvale to see my other sister, then cairns to catch up with my mate Dave who I haven't seen in over 10 years. Dave bought his K2 new in 1972, and did over 100,000 miles in 10 years as it was his only form of transport, but he parked it when he bought his ex-Milwaukie Police Harley shovelhead with a few more creature comforts than his 750.

Dave's health isn't good, he's 67 now but was a heavy smoker for many years and had a brush with cancer years ago, so isn't riding any more, and sadly the hot humid weather isn't good for his large bike collection, so eventually his brother and I might do a road trip with a big trailer and bring them back to Victoria before they rust away completely. Anyway, the trip up should be around 3000 miles hugging the coast, then around 2000 miles back home through the red centre. I won't be riding my 750/4 though, as much as I'm sure it'd make it OK once I fix the gearbox, I want to take my Triumph Rocket III with it's 2300cc engine, it's a big comfy bike for a long ride, and has only done 8000 miles since new, so I think I'll throw on a new set of tyres, give it a service, and hit the road. Should be good for both of us. ;D

More power to you Terry.  My own chances for transcontinental MC journeys may have passed, but a new GoldWing, FJR or some other milegobbler would certainly improve my odds. My CB is capable, and could leave tomorrow, but I’m pretty sure that I’m not good for 500 mile days anymore.
I’m fortunate that Franks 20/100/2020 challenge dovetails with what I usually do for a season of riding. The 90kmi is a big deal for me, but I’m just a piker in the bigger world of motorcycling.

My riding partner and I try to keep it around 300 miles a day when we are out on our long rides because we are old and broken. ;D It leaves time to stop and enjoy the scenery as well as it's good for your body to get off and walk around a bit when you are 60. My buddy rides an FJR and I take my Concours when we go and having the right bike for the job makes a huge difference in how you feel at the end of the day. 8)

I did 3000 in 2017 when I did the reunion Ride in Colorado.. would have gladly rode further  had I had more loot..
Did around 2000 when I went to Bonneville in 2018, rode most of that in 3 days..
Makes me wonder what I could do with a bike with a windshield,  and a pocketful of loot....

Not seeing why it should be a problem, got an Ok running 750 i bought as a partsbike.
Actually I was telling someone about the ride to Bonneville in 07, and how long it took, and they said Yeah but can you do it today ! That was in ,17... when  I got back from Colorado , i I said I guess I still can..
Riding, is not just physical , it's a mental thing.. many of those  700 mile plus days , we're my first ride of 200 miles plus for that year..or sometimes first ride anywhere that year. .  You just get past the initial hurdle and get yourself in the zone. .  You have to want to do it.l And I enjoy it.. as long as its dry.l

Yep nothing better than a long ride Frank, my last big one was 3000 miles in 1991, but being in the Army I didn’t have the freedom that you civilians have to just get up and go. This will probably be my last big one due to my current state of health, but each 400-500 mile daily leg should still be ok as long as I’m drugged up    sufficiently for each leg. ;D

Ha ha, a workmate has bipolar pretty bad and was singing the praises of Clenazopam(?) but I’m not sure that’d be good for me with a bike capable of 100 Mph @ 4000 RPM, Spotty? ;D

Ride #16 280mi, 48mpg, 70F

Today I did what will likely be my longest ride of the year: 280 miles out and back to Hickory Corners and the Gilmore Vintage bike show. It was a glorious day for riding and even the 40? mile detour that was improperly signed and unnecessary didn’t take the smile off of my face, as it was a nice shady and curved country road that I had never been on before, and likely will never be on again.
There were many nice bikes on hand, some beauties, and one trophy winner that refused to start for its owner for the short run back to its trailer and the journey home. I saw our pal Sean there as well, maybe he will have more photos.

Hey Kevin. I'm disappointed that I did not meet you at the show Sunday. I showed up around 1:30 or so to do some of the after show ride with my friends. First ride for me in over 10 days. I injured a nerve somehow in my lower back I believe and my left leg/hip/knee and all those parts in between have been in sad shape and 0 sleep at night with pain. Should be in the pissed off thread  ;D When Sean mentioned you had been there I said Dang.  Glad you had a safe ride over and enjoyed a wonderful Michigan day with your son ! Looking forward to see you tick over number 20 here real soon.

Sorry I missed you Eric, and sorry for your pain. I hope you are feeling better very soon. It’s no fun to hurt and even worse when the sun is shining. Sean mentioned the Lake Michigan run and I very nearly capitulated, but as my day started at 430am I really didn’t need to be adding 2-3hrs to our ride time. Where did you all marshall, by the entry gate? I waved to a group of riders there on my way out.
Sean, I didn’t hear the end of your Michelin adventure, but my son is also running Michelin’s on both his bikes. Are they fitted to your bike? Are they performing to your satisfaction? What’s your preferred brand? Our supply lines are indeed disrupted. Fortunate for me that I haven’t needed any mid-season parts. In the past, I have received Yamiya parts in half the time of domestic orders. Did I spot your bike at the pump in Hickory Corners as we were leaving?

Here’s a couple more photos. Indian and Harley. Both with hand shifters. I guess I like red.

I was standing next to a yellow 750F by the exit off to the side and when the oldtimer working there started taking down his rule signs I drove into the field where the bikes were.

Now I'm kinda disappointed I didn't make the trip to Gilmore.  I wasn't sure how the turnout would be with everything going on...

Insted, I met up with a group of friends, Mostly Harley riders, and Rode from Flint, to Bancroft, then Fowlerville, with the final destination of Hell.  With the return trip The total was just under 114 miles.  It was near perfect riding weather.  I NEED to start looking at new riding gear though, my Jacket no longer fits (Gained way too much weight during quarantine) and is beginning to show its age (20 years) with some of the stretched seams beginning to fail...

Kevin, i have not got the michelins yet, and its just about the only brand i have not used before.  Parts unlimited had no dunlops, bridgestone, avon, metzeler, or pirellis, or continentals to fit my gs1100.  So yeah, id say we got a bit of a tire shortage goin on.
If it works good, it looks good...
