Wow, that must have hurt mate! Did it do much damage to the bike?

Hey Terry, it has been an adventure for sure.  I notice you have been having some of your own adventures lately too. ;)

Here is the story if you are interested -

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,23731.msg2069630.html#msg2069630

I admire your courage Greg.
I'm happy to hear that you are (mostly) recovered and enjoying motorcycling. I'd  like nothing better than to tag along with you and visit some of your lonesome Idaho roads (the ones without the pickup trucks) but I'm pretty sure you would leave me in the dust.... and it's a long way from here to Idaho.

Thanks Kevin, a lot of people think it is a toss up between me being stupid and/or crazy to get back on a bike after what happened.  But like I said elsewhere, when I was in the hospital and rehab there were people injured worse than I was that had been in car accidents.  So I quit rolling the dice every day by commuting on the 750 and focused on touring and day rides to minimize the risk a little.

No need to worry about keeping up with me.  The idea of crashing with all that metal in my leg is plenty of motivation to notch it back a few clicks, plus I'm a little slow shifting which slows me down.  So look me up if you make it to Idaho.  Hard to beat the riding here.

Damn ugly break..  i think mine broke about 2.5 niches higher.  The small bone was in three pieces, they left it to line itself up. I think I only got a front plate, after it did not heal after a year in plaster, after a while they went in again, Less hardware and a bone graft.
Suiting , no problem   it tilted my shifter up 45 degrees, and put a fatter Harley peg on it. Then I started dragracing the 836, and ended up in the top five at the track.. so I am thinking shiffting fast enough.. it wore a hole in my cast.

Back to riding, I rode 10 miles last Sunday,  but it's been snowing often, cold, and they are spraying the goop on the roads.. its hard on pipes. 3 days insurance left hope I can get out but not looking great..

Don't sweat it Frank, it's not 2020 for another week! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I wanna ride now dammit.. I likely won't insure till  March then  but..
Trust me.... I will probably record and mark  every 100 miller I do.
One thing you don't realize while you are working, riding during the week is the best riding.. once you try it you won't be out as much on weekends, it actually very nice.

Back when I was in my 20,s we were often out 3 weekends of the month, Fri night, Sat, Sun., thats around 15 rides in 2 months.,  we did many 500 to 900 mile weekends....sometimes with no real plan.,  life was good back then.

Yep, understood, once you retire every day is Saturday. It is a problem though, for working stiffs who put in 40 hours of toil, then have chores to do on those fleeting weekends.

I'm 60 in March, and hoping to end my 45 year working life sooner rather than later, and if I can pull that off, I'll be doing many more rides, and as many build projects as possible.

The good thing is I might be able to do a little work on other guys bikes to supplement my projects, none of the shops around here will even look at old bikes, so I've been approached by several guys to work on their bikes recently, but due to having a full time job and barely enough spare time for my own bikes, I've had to knock them back. With the amount of interest in older bikes nowadays, there are lots of cashed up people looking for someone to fix their bikes. As long as I still have time to do my own stuff, it might be good. ;D

Crashed while riding my "other" canyon carver yesterday.
Stupid sheet of ice sent me into the wall and flipped me on my head!

Wow, that's a beautiful pic Cowman, it looks like all the Christmas Cards we get over here, when it's hot and smokey from all the bushfires this time of year. ;D

I'm riding down to Phillip Island for the 2020 Classic on Sunday, I think it's around 100 miles each way? Sadly my 750 is off the road until I get time to pull the engine and fix the dodgy gearbox, so I'll probably ride my Sportster, although I'm tempted to take m y VFR750, which I haven't ridden in months. We'll see, but there will be pictures for proof. ;D

You only get to claim 1 ride per day. Want to get people out there riding more.

Looks like Prokop is number 2, Dave 500 is first one, Ball Aquatics  is third one..

I've just cheated, I've signed up for the 2020 "Long Ride" to raise money for prostate cancer research. 7 days of a couple hundred miles per day, then another 600 home, so I'll get well over 2000 miles over 8 or 9 days.

Not strenuous, but for a good cause. More men die from prostate cancer than women do from breast cancer. If anyone wants to attend, or donate, let me know, and I'll start another thread when I get more info. Should be some great pics! ;D

That's buddy, I got diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer in Sep. 2015. Hopefully they find a cure before I croak but in the meantime I am building and trying to wear out as many bikes as I can. 8)

Thats terrible mate, I had prostate surgery in late 2018 (TURP) but no cancer, thank God. I'll think of you and Bobby when on the ride.

I had massive radiation in 2016 and now no new growths. I was down to less than 110lbs when I got diagnosed but now I am back to my normal weight of 130lbs. I get a shot in the belly once a month to keep the #$%* at bay and my PSA numbers down, yesterday was .024. Otherwise I am in good health, I can still chop several cords of firewood a year and ride on long trips. Last summer's trip was 4k miles. I am Mr Mom so I get to work on bikes every day while the kids(17 and 11) are at school. Other than a few painful days every month from the shot I can still do more in a day than most other 61 year old people that I know. I don't know how long I have but I ain't dead yet. ;D 8)

Thanks Brian, much appreciated mate! I sent an email to my manager today asking for corporate sponsorship, one of our company's competitors is already listed as a sponsor, so I used that little gem as a lever as these companies like to try to outdo each other. So the upshot is I'll get a week of riding when I should be working, and folks trying to find a non invasive cure for prostate cancer might get some well needed funds. Plus being October, the weather shouldn't be too miserable for a weak pr1ck like me.......... ;D
