Eric, that is only 80mph.  Pretty typical out there on i94 these days.  Although, certainly possible to get a ticket.

I was cruising at 120-140 KPH (75-90 MPH) for most of the day Sean, with quite a few 100 MPH stints when overtaking lines of cars, because most of the roads I ride are single lane with no safe overtaking lanes, so I just give it a handful and spend as little time as possible rocketing towards oncoming traffic. Easy to do on this bike, but not that hard on a 750/4, or any big bike from "back in the day".

When I was 18, I got booked for "Speeds in excess of 180 KPH in a 60 KPH zone" by a cop on a CB750F2 cop bike, when I was on my CB750F0. I couldn't understand why the charge was "Speeds in excess of 180 KPH" until only a few years ago when I bought an old Honda 750 cop speedo, it only went up to 180 KPH (112.5 MPH) because at the time, my speedo was reading 215 KPH (134 MPH) which was probably more a case of an optimistic speedo, than actual speed, all I had on that stock F0 was velocity stacks, an RC 4 into 1, drag bars and a bikini fairing.

He was gonna throw the book at me, but when I told him I was in the Army, he told me that he was a Vietnam vet, and we became best buddies, so he reduced it to 130 in a 100 zone, and I got an 80 dollar fine, which was still a lot of cash in 1978, but a lot better than I'd expected. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I got my driver's license suspended for a couple months back around the late 1970's pretty fresh out of high school when I piled up an impressive 13 points on my driving record. Fast muscle cars were very affordable back then and I was young and dumb !
I've had 0 points on the record for many years now so I must have finally grown up a little.

I drove over to the storage place, wheeled out the big blue Yamaha and took off, riding thru Wallan, Romsey, Castlemaine, Maldon, Bendigo, Heathcote (stopping for fuel) Kilmore, Wallan, and back to the storage place. Had a great ride, 329 Km (205 miles) of high speed naughty fun, through lots of backroads and few freeways. Only saw a few Harleys and a couple of adventure bikes, obviously all the classic Jap bike owners are hiding inside until the weather warms up again.

Nice ride Terry. It is your wintertime there now, yes?
Did the Yamaha keep you warm enough?
Do you have to lay up at all?
Avoid the snowy places?

Thanks Kevin, my wife bought me some thermals a couple of weeks ago, so along with my "Dri-Rider" jacket, gloves and pants, I was toasty warm. The bike had aftermarket hand warmers fitted when I bought it, but I think they must have died over it's 4 year storage, I've checked the fuse and it's fine, but no warmth, and now I have arthritis in both hands, by the time I got home, both hands were really sore.

I stopped in Castlemaine and bought some anti-inflammatories even though I'm not supposed to take them, and that eased a little back, shoulder and arm pain, (lots of old injuries from jumping out of perfectly good airplanes) but I'm not gonna let a little pain get in the way of my sanity rides. No snow where I am, but some places get very cold (by Australian standards) so probably 40 deg F is around the coldest day I've had so far? It gets colder after dark of course, but I'm usually home by then, as the storage place closes at 5pm on Saturdays. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

Ha ha, well done Eric, my body's gotten older, but my brain is as young and dumb as it's ever been! I lost my license twice for speeding, but nothing impressive, we had a "Probationary" period of 12 months back then where if you got booked for any speed over the limit, you lost your license for 3 months. Nowadays the "P Platers" get it easier, with some demerit points (can't remember how many) before they lose their licenses. If I got booked for doing the "Ton" yesterday, I'd probably make the front page of the newspapers and go to jail. Oh well, you do the crime, don't #$%* about doing the time..... ;D

BallAquatics, thanks for posting. I might just do what you have done, if I can put some CV armor on. That would make a nice 3-4-5 day adventure for Junior and I.

Kevin, I'm sure you would enjoy it!  If you find you'll be making the trip, shoot me a PM and maybe we could do a few miles together.   8)

Ride#6 116 miles 48mpg 84f
I got my son to go with me today. We don’t go together too often, but it’s nice when we do. He got a low mile 919 Hornet this year to go with his cruiser Magna. I think I prefer the Hornet over the Magna and the CB over both, but I haven’t ridden either of his bikes very much.
We went the usual loop and encountered the Amtrak track machine at the Chelsea Grain siding. I don’t know all about the machine but I know they want to raise the allowable speed here from 79mph to 110mph.

Ride #7 is in the books (170 miles).  One I’d like to forget.  Original plan was to ride north to Owen Sound and Collingwood and wind my way back south.  About half way between Shelburne and Owen Sound I pulled off the main road to snap a photo of the bike with a wind farm in the background.  I had just turned onto a farm road (15 feet of paved road then gravel) and was turning the bike around when a young guy in a red honda turned up the same road just as I was beginning a very slow u-turn.  I had an oh sh!t moment as the car sped past me and I ended up on the ground.  Fortunately, the only real damage was a bent clutch lever.  The guy came back and was all apologetic but it was my own fault for not being more cautious and aware of the situation.  I continued north for another ten minutes but thought better of it and headed home on the odd chance the clutch lever snapped or there was some other hidden damage.

I had a new set of levers sitting in my stock at home so swapped those out and all is good again.

As much as I don't like those big fairing screens, they're a life saver in horrible weather, and keep the bugs out of your teeth in summer. ;D

That would be great, I’m just in the dreaming stage right now.
I have a travel brochure around here somewhere detailing the MC roads in SE Ohio.
Home-Athens 270 miles is almost double what I usually do.

Anytime a big June Bug ricochets off my face shield I appreciate having it there. My son and I were riding one once and we had just taken off from a stop. All of a sudden in my rear view mirror I see him jamming on the brakes, going off to the shoulder in a wild manner and the helmet flying off. WTF.   Went back and found out he left the visor up on his full face and caught a wasp/bee and had the welts to prove it.  ;D ;D

Well Melbourne (and only Melbourne, fcuk it) is going back into lockdown at midnight tonight for another 6 weeks due to a second wave of Covid-19 cases, so today, instead of "working from home", I had a "Terence Bueller's Day off" and went for a ride instead. 330 Kms (206 miles) in (mostly) glorious winter sunshine.

FJR1300 ride 8 Jul 2020 1 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

I bought a new iPhone last week, which I loved until it ate the last pic I took, of my odometer reading, but at the time I was excited because I had a last minute idea to stick my car's dashcam on the windscreen of the big blue Yamaha, and am putting myself to sleep watching almost 4 hours of video of my ride, although it is fun speeding the footage up to 10X, then it's like watching a chase scene from "Mad Max". Anyway, I'm hanging up my bike keys for 6 weeks, but ride #14 is in the bag, so as long as the lockdown kills off the CCP Virus here in the pariah state, I should be able to get my 20 rides done by the end of 2020. ;D

We are well into July and I have only completed my THIRD 100+ mile ride last Monday. Summer is coming slowly to the Pacific Northwest and I have yet to enjoy an entire ride under clear, sunny skies. I left Tacoma in sunshine on Monday but skies were gray and cloudy and temperatures much cooler between McCleary and Olympia. These old bones just don't do well in the cold. I'm starting to think twenty rides might be a stretch this year.

Rug up mate, that's what's kept me going. Thermals, track suit pants, Dri-Rider waterproofs, thick gloves, and I even wore a "Motorcycle Balaclava" that I must have bought years ago and forgotten about, in the top box of the big Yam. I was tired and sore after (well during too) my ride, so had a hot shower, then off to VA funded physio, so Alice the Magnificent could give me a therapeutic massage. When you stop, you die. ;D

So of course a SOHC would be ideal....

So ride what you have, when people start hitting 20 it'll probably come up in the discussion again.
