1978 CB750K / Rear Wheel Removal
« on: December 20, 2019, 07:23:43 AM »
Time for tires ,,,,,, Probably know the answer to this question but, what the heck maybe there is a trick.
On the 78 CB750K, Does the rear wheel removal require removal of the left side exhaust?
Thanks

No to exhaust removal. Put the bike on the centre stand and disconnect the brake operating rod and steady bar. Remove the chain guard.

First you slack off the big nut on the axle (usually on the right). Next, slack off the two axle adjuster bolts (release the jam nuts first) quite a bit. They are the bolts that stick out towards the rear. Swing both adjusters down and out of the way (pointing to the floor). If you have an endless chain (no clip), shove the wheel forward and unhook the chain. Hang it up to the LR shock/spring.

Now remove the bolts that are screwed down through the back end of the swing arm. Lifting them out releases the two blocks that are in the end of the slot. Pull the wheel (complete with drive sprocket, brake assembly, axle and spacers) straight back and out of the swing arm.

This, except that the last two bolts described were eliminated on the later models. The chain adjusters capture these blocks so when the adjusters are rotated down and the wheel slides forward the tabbed blocks will slide to the side and the wheel can then be removed.
