I think those are the same as a Puch, I believe that is who built them for Sears.

I saw an Allstate in a bike shop and asked the mechanic if it was Italian, he said no it's Sears, jeez. He thought I was a big dummy.

Yeah, the best I know of, Puch did make the motorcycles, mopeds & scooters, for the Sears Allstate name .

back in the early 1960's, some guys, around here (Little Rock area, in Arkansas) would go looking for the Sears Moped gastanks, to use on their motorcycles. They were easy to mount, a single bolt, right up through the middle of the gas tank and with the moped's tool compartment, being at the topside of the tank, meant that the top of the tank was recessed, so the mount bolt was below the surface and couldn't cause any damage to the rider, in an accident. It also had a nice rounded shape to it and would hold enough gas, for a race. I remember them being used on the BSA C15 Starfire Scramblers that were raced, in our area and might have been others. Also, Cushman & a few others, were badged as Allstate. I had one of these tanks years ago and came across another one, a few years back. But, they weren't as big or nice looking as the one pictured in the original post. And nit to take anything away from what has been posted about the gas tank in the the original post either.

I had an Allstate, my Dad bought it for me when I was around ten, was my first scooter.
50cc manual two speed, operated by rotating the left control. Top speed 42 mph [downhill!]

Just looking at google pictures, guessing the ones I saw were 175cc tanks.
250's had Two gas caps. Puch had a unique twin cylinder / single combustion chamber.
May take a bit to figure out the port timing. 🤔

Besides the SOHC and Honda Twins I like to ride mopeds too.  Yes, the Sears-Allstate is Puch.  Could be a Puch MV50.  Kromag also produced JC Penney Pinto and Sears Free Spirit which used the Puch E50 and ZA50 moped engines.

It was a very unique engine.

It was a very unique engine.

The Sears Allstate moped was my first "bike", it had a two speed with chutch operated with left hand.
Also had pedals, could be ridden like a bicycle.
Top speed was 42mph...downhill!

Seem to remember the tool kit was under the cover on the top of the tank?

This one was similar to mine...
