I am in no way an expert on Jawas, but you are correct, the older models had separate levers for kickstart and shifting. When I got my first Honda, the shifter seemed to be very flimsy. There are still guys in my old country who restore and ride old Czech motorcycles - with and without hacks, including 500 OHC. Here is the whole history of Jawa:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jawa_MotoJawa was also sold under license to be manufactured in India - as Yezdi:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ideal_Jawaand as far as I know, the name is now used by Mahindra for a line of 4 stroke motorcycles:https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/magazines/panache/mahindra-revives-classic-jawa-brand-launches-3-motorcycles-starting-at-rs-1-55-lakh/articleshow/66632115.cms?from=mdr
My brother has a 340 swinger 4 speed mostly original. Purple repaint but the same color. He built a ported and cammed 360 magnum engine for it, almost finished it but now it lives on a stand in my shop.
I'll carry the GPz flag for both of us Bill.I put plenty of miles on the 900 this past summer. The engineers at work surrounded it on their break.
