New member out of Colorado
« on: January 23, 2020, 07:02:30 AM »
Good Morning,
I've been trying to get a minute to introduce myself. I have been reading and finding a ton of quality information on this forum. I also have many questions. That being said I live in Colorado and spend many hours trail riding the mountains here. I previously owned a 1981 CB750F this bike was a basket case in which had been siting in a backyard for 12 years. The Super Sport was a runner in which I did the typical mods to do a cafe style build and restored to street worthy. I became interested in the SOHC bikes and decided to sell the 750F and get my money out of it. I then found the 75' CB750K I am currently restoring. This bike is a barn find a friend spotted in Nebraska which I picked up for 500.00. I have plans to restore this bike to original to original. I am currently in the process of overhauling the engine. This bike was modified to The "Harley Style" with a 16' rear wheel, stretched fork stanchions and so on! As of now I am cleaning engine parts, vapor blasting side covers and looking for a quality machine shop to go through the head and cylinders (Hint Hint?). I am willing to ship if anyone has suggestions. I have many questions in reference to stock design. I am looking forward to learning and being a part of your forum.
Thanks

Greetings from the Springs. Where in CO?

I have 3 suggestions none of which are in CO. I learned my lesson about trying to use local. They know machine work but they just don't know our bikes. For what you need: our head man is here, Mike Rieck in MA. Serious performance work ie big valves, porting, etc or simple head work. I also use Kenny at CycleX in WI. He just recently did a big bore job and replaced a bent valve. My other option is Big Jay at APE in Willow Springs, CA. All of these guys teeth were cut on CB750's when they first came out. They can all handle what you need.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Hey Jerry ,
Thanks for the reply!  I live in Lakewood near Morrison Co. I will be in Colorado Springs for the weekend. I'm taking the family to Great Wolf Lodge. I appreciate the response for qualified machinists. I'll start with Cycle X and go from there.

My purpose for mentioning him, is that he is local to the Colorado area.  He should know a good machinist.

I see. I appreciate it.  I've read many things about him and his knowledge of SOHC Hondas!  I plan on purchasing his book to assist me with my project. I'll be looking forward to learning some resources from all of you guys.
Thanks MD.

Welcome from Texas.  MF Jerry knows these bikes and gives good advice.

I think Hondaman is near you and could be a valuable resource, Buy his book, well worth the $100.

Welcome K5 but,
Tell me more about your trail rides. I'm a frustrated flatlander. ???
Whats your ride?
ORV or street licensed?
Day rides?
Rockhopping?
Jeep roads?

I like Red Rocks theater.

Thanks for the Welcome Kevin D,
I primarily ride Colorado mountain trails and frequent Moab Utah usually twice a year. I ride a 2016 Husqvarna TE300. It is street legal and OHV registered as you need the OHV tags to ride anywhere offroad in Colorado. I would upload a pic but I'm still trying to figure out how to navigate this forum. I grew up riding dirtbikes and have continued throughout my adult life. My son is 6 and he races motocross so we spend a lot of time in the summer doing that which reduces my seat time (worth it!) The trail systems here are amazing you can find anything from beginner to advanced enduro. The Husky and KTM lineup is sought after for this type of riding. These bikes are mountain goats and will climb anything. Any advice on uploading pics would be appreciated I tried to follow the newbies links and they were not working. So far I have only been able to upload a pic in the gallery. I would like to start a build thread but do not yet know how to go about it. I live directly east of the Red Rocks Amphitheatre it is a great place.

Thanks for the picture and write up 750k5. It's been quite a while since my CB and I have been in Colorado, and I have never been on the trails and backroads there. It looks like you are getting the best of it, and your son as well. Good for you.
The project shop is where you want to start your build thread.
