Hi all

Hope you are all well

New UK member here

Just finished my first dream bike a fully restored 1981 Yam rd350lc

Now on the hunt for my second dream bike a Honda 400 F as a stable mate

Pretty good with the spanner’s but is there anything that I should watch out for that is totally unrepairable?

I see there is a blue non runner on eBay and and looking at this as a possible project but just wondered like I said is there anything I should avoid or is it like the RDs that most parts are available from suppliers like Dave Silver

Catch up with you all soon

Best wishes Al

As I recently figured out one thing on the 400 that can be a problem is the cam chain tensioner, if it's stuck or at service limit then you have to split the cases to fix it. That is the case with a bike that I have. I would split the cases and fix it but I am already in the process with another 400. I know a lot of bikes go from the US to the UK or Japan. Are the 400's so rare there that you have to turn to ebay for a non-running project?

Hi Jake

Yes I know about the cam chain issue but figure that the engine will be a complete rebuild as part of the “fun” so a new cam chain and tensioner will be completed

As for bikes in the uk yes there are a few runners on eBay and good private ones that go for about £4-5k but I like in some warped way to rebuild from scratch

I know in the end the final cost may be a bit more than buying a restored one but at least I know the bike well and no hidden bodges

It was the same with the rd I rebuilt I maybe could have bought a good one but there are so many out there classed as rebuilt but when you look closer the rebuild is actually a bodge or a short cut has been done

I would post the ad link but not sure how but her she is

Catch up soon

Best wishes Al

Welcome from Lake Superior,

That bike looks like it is not far from being a runner.

Welcome from Texas.  Nice RD, I have an earlier model.

Have you considered a CB550?  You may be disappointed with the performance of the 400 after riding your 350.
