Dwayne...... it’s more than a few dents. It has some serious creases! And, it has so many interior baffles that nothing can come in through the filler. The only way to repair it would be to cut the bottom out, do the work, then weld it shut....... probably pull the baffles out, then reinstall. I may do it.

If you check out one of my previous posts, there is a company in Wales that builds an exact replica of the Rickman CR tank in alloy. It is gorgeous, and expensive. I’ll decide this summer, how much I really like this bike. Also, when I fit the fairing, the tank starts to disappear. I do have a good, original ‘glass Rickman tank, and the molds to make a new one. Too many choices!

Frank......I love that tank and plan to run as is. The other side is whacked and there is “road rash” on the TOP! But hey, it was a racer.......

The original Rickmans actually have a piece of half tubing welded to the side stand bracket and then it was brazed to the frame tube. I’ll do something similar.
Please let us see a pic of the other side of the tank, the side with the battle scars. ;)
The half tube piece is called a "doubler", as I was told by my friend that worked in the aerospace industry.

RAF..... I’ll probably just leave it alone for now. It’s super clean, no leaks, and the petcocks work. Perfect for the sorting I want to get done, this summer.

Super productive day in the shop. Finished fabricating the clamp on side stand. Started by welding the original side stand bracket (cut off the race bike 30 years ago!) to a piece of split tubing, 1.25” ID. Then used the other half to make the temporary clamp. I want to be able to move the stand slightly, to adjust it fore and aft, and get the outward angle just right. The location on the bottom tube makes this difficult, as the frame tube has a flattened top, at the rear, just before the frame tube turns up, for the left rear engine mount. Rickman did this for engine clearance and space is tight. The thin, bolt on strap should just get across that “flat”. Once I get it all set properly, I will shorten the Allen screws to fit nicely.

The plan is to get it just where it clears all the shifter linkage, and leaves room for my riding boot. Next Fall, when I tear it all down again, the saddle plate can be welded, and all the other bits will disappear.

Also built another battery box. The one currently in place belongs back in my K6. Took this old one and cleaned off the original brackets. Now the Fuse Panel, hooks for the rubber mounted solenoid, and two mounts (stud and bolt) for the combo rectifier/regulator have moved. All the components will fit easily within the triangle in the Rickman frame tubes. Should tidy up the wiring nicely.

Taking bets on the stand.

Tested on a scrap piece of 1.25” pipe and couldn’t budge it with a very long lever.

Sean....... for now, the side stand is removable. Fitted it all up today (few minor modifications to clear shifter linkage). All back on the bench for a quick coat of paint, photos next time......

Also...... took another battery box and moved around the brackets, trimmed a few corners and got it to fit perfectly within the Rickman frame tubes. Using a combo for rectifier and regulator, so all fits pretty nicely. Need a source for the rubber buttons that locate the battery. Does Honda still sell them?

Get this installed, lube the chain and swing arm and I am ready for a test ride. I have the indicator panel tied in above the headlight (all working). I do have 4 X small LED dash lights on order. Plan to stick them in a “T” pattern between the tach and speedo, on the instrument mounting panel.

.......and here’s the completed (temporary) side stand install. When I’m satisfied with location (and angle), I’ll add a few tach welds. Next Winter, when I strip down the bike to strip and replate the bright nickel on the frame, I’ll braze in the bottom saddle, remove all the top 1/2, tabs and cross plate. Looking forward to a ride!

“Lash” does amazing restorations! That’s not the most incredible........ A few years ago, he bought an early non sandcast K0 from me. Somebody had hacked and cut the rear 1/2 of the frame to make some kind of hard tail chopper. It was a mess. He also took a K2 (no ownership) frame and grafted on all the required bits. 12-24 months later, he rode over on a beautiful, perfectly restored, blue K0. Imagine my surprise when I realized it was the “chopper”!

Recently, he picked up all the spare engines that came with my race Rickman. He needed a K2 and I’m hoping for a replacement K6 for the bike I used for the Rickman road engine..... Watch for his build posts. Meticulous work!
