Making progress...... new wiring harness and bar end controls, slowly fitting oil tank, brake master, hoses and a battery box....... starting to look like a motorcycle. Need to find/make temporary fork ears for a 41 mm fork. I want to hang all the lights, so I can ride it in the Spring. Once all the brackets for side, centre stand, air box, turn signals, battery box, tool tray, ignition switch, etc., are welded back in the correct location? Take it all apart and have the frame re plated........ lengthy project.

I agree on the forks! The ones I took off were 41’s as well, but with the twin 750 discs and Lockheed  calipers it was pretty massive....... I prefer the small, sleek look that Rickman achieved.

Another 1/2 day in the shop. Bunch of parts arrived, so the bike grew a wiring harness, turn signals and taillight. Installed a temporary head light shell so everything has a home. Bar controls are on too. I used an earlier style, so I can turn the lights on/off. Had to make temporary rear stalk mounts, of course the tabs had been cut off. Battery box is zip tied in for now (tabs long gone!), still lots to do. Just realized I forgot to clamp in the main ground strap, when installing the engine........ the entire clan is off for 6-7 days of skiing, so progress will slowed.

Today I also pulled the stainless exhaust system from my ‘75 cb750F. I have a really clean, stock header to replace it, and a slip on an muffler too. I thought the system was a Delkevic, with a locally fabricated tail pipe and Hindle straight through muffler. When I took it off, I was really pleased. It weights nothing at all! Perfect for the Rickman, and it fits perfectly too! Photos next shop day.

Finished up installing the Hindle exhaust system today. Fit perfectly and weighs nothing! Turn signals are hooked up, and hung up a temporary tail light. Next few shop days will be wiring only! I had a new K3-6 wiring harness that uses a connection to the starter motor safety switch. I doubt I’m going to use one, so need to review the “bypass this” posts. I also installed a new RHS switch that allows me to control Head light ON/OFF (HI/LO beam control is on the LHS switch) so some work to do, mixing and matching. Discovered the front race tire is too wide to allow fitting the original Rickman  f’glass fender.  Will address that next. The general plan is still to build the bike up enough that I can run and ride it for a few weeks. After final fitting of every component, it will come apart. The frame will get re plated and final finishes on all the other parts........

Rickman made a wider front fender for the dirt bikes, not sure if it fits those forks.
 Found a pic, it appears 41 may have had a wider fender.

Frank....... I have a few fenders and two are the originals. They fit snugly between the fork legs and have small detents to clear the dust boots. The problem is the “fat” race tire fitted. It’s over 4.5” at it’s widest point and is about 0.6” wider than what should be in there. I’ll get it sorted.......

Have you read the cautions about re-plating Rickman frames on the Satanic Mechanic site? Also you have mentioned having brackets etc "welded" on: Reynolds 531 is not welded, it is brazed.

Rickman frames were shiny, almost like chromed from the beginning.

It’s really the stripping that can go horribly wrong! Horror stories of frames being left too long in chemical baths and virtually falling apart, or so scarred they never recover. I’ve found an experienced shop, that has actually done two Rickmans in the past. Both owners were very pleased with the results. I’ve seen the most recent, and it looks “new”. I have lots to do before that!

This morning, spent a few hours making bolt on brackets for horn and ignition switch. It’s been a race bike so long, almost every “tab” has been removed....... I’m in NO RUSH. I want this one to be sweet.

Great progress of this fine specimen. I wish my back could handle being in that position as it would be a blast. Yes that exhaust fits up nicely. Keep it going!
