Putting comstars on K7 750?
« on: March 05, 2020, 11:38:33 am »
I've searched the forums and maybe I'm not searching properly but I haven't found exactly what I need to know. A guy approached me from my local garage saying he has a ton of parts for cb750s including an F front end and rear. What would be involved in converting the rear brake to a disk? Could someone direct me to a post where someone outlines it if this question has been asked a million times? Thanks a lot. Sorry I ask so many questions of you guys haha

It all bolts on no problem except rear master cylinder
If it works good, it looks good...

Have you seen any posts about how people mounted that rear master cylinder? I'd love to do this if he gives me a good price but I'm not a particularly skilled fabricator. Although I do have welder friends

even the easiest solution would require welding tabs to the frame for master cylinder and running rearsets or adapting or modifying a brake pedal to operate the master cylinder.   I'm sure someone has done it, but it was quite some time ago.

I welded a piece of steel to the back of a spare brake pedal and then used a clevis and threaded pushrod to actuate the master cylinder which I'd mounted to some 1/8" plate held to the bike by the swingarm nut and the rear motor mount bolts.  It worked really well and required very little welding.

The front comstar needs to use the F2/3 forks and dual brakes, which is an improvement. The comstar is not compatible with the K7 forks or brake.
Just to give you an idea, this is the stock rear master mounting on my '82 FT Ascot. The K7 brake pedal might be modified to work similarly, with MC mounts welded to the frame?
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

Still haven't gotten word back from the dude about the price of the forks and 2 wheels although upon further consideration, it seems just a little outside what I'm comfortable doing. I'm not a super skilled fabricator. Although comstar rims would be incredibly cool, seems as though this is outside my wheelhouse.

I appreciate the responses. It's so cool what you guys get up to and modify!

I have a K7 that a PO put Comstars on, and I would like to put spokes back on it when I start to fix it up. It is drum rear, not disc like the F model bikes.

I see on your profile that you are in PA, I am too, just off of I-81 in Chambersburg. If you have a decent set of the regular spoke wheels, I am willing to trade for my Comstars.
