1975 cb750F partial restoration - fair price to sell?
« on: January 16, 2020, 03:35:37 PM »
Hi All,

Just finished up a partial restoration on a 1975 cb750f. I have a few other projects including another 75 cb750F, so I'm thinking about selling this one. Just wondering what you all think is a fair price? I'll put went went into it below if you want to read on.

OVERVIEW:
Clean title
Every single nut, bolt, and component was cleaned, rebuilt or replaced when needed.
All hardware was de-rusted and replatted/polished. No rust anywhere.
The frame was already very clean, just touched up.
Runs strong. starts right up cold, doesnt even need choke!
Overall it looks like a very clean old bike. Chrome and paint looks old, but no rust! (just waiting on the side covers, will most likely be new)

ENGINE:
originally had 46k miles.
Completely rebuilt with new cam and primary chains, gaskets, seals, bearing, piston rings, etc.

WHEELS:
New tires, tubes and rim strips.
Rims where painted black by PO.
New spokes and all trued up.

FORKS:
rebuilt with new seals

BRAKES AND CABLES:
New brakes lines all the way around
New cables all the way around
Both master cylinders and calipers were rebuilt with new pistons and seals.
New fuel lines and vent lines all the way around.
Brake rotors cleaned and repainted. well within spec

CARBS:
Original carbs. Ultrasonic cleaned, rebuilt with new rubbers, stock jets. very clean
Stock airbox rebuilt

TANK and BODY:
1977 F2 gas tank. Original paint. Cosmetically it has that old patina look, a small ding and paint isnt the best shape anymore
Cleared of rust, cleaned and re-sealed. It will outlast us all!
New petcock.
original seat in mint condition. Looks NOS.
All the various metal bits like battery tray, swing arm, pegs, stands - sand blasted and painted factory black.

ELECTRICAL:
New wiring harness
Both switches cleaned and rebuilt - work great
New starter solenoid
Upgraded to a ricks reg/rec setup - charging system works perfectly
New battery
New bulbs - all lights work great.
Gauges cleaned up and work great.
Points cleaned and set
Stock coils, new spark plug wires, caps and plugs

EXHAUST:
Original headers, cleaned up and wrapped.
Muffler is an old kerker, no baffle (came with the bike so I just cleaned it up)
No holes or leaks, sounds great

I think thats about it! Would be great to see your opinions!

I see you are located in Cali.  Old bike prices there are not really in line with the rest of the country, so you should get a fair bit more for it than you would here in Michigan.  How much more?  I don't really know.

Here in Michigan, that would sell for $1800-$3000 as long as it runs and rides very well (not necessarily a given based on rebuilt components)  I just have not seen 750f bikes commanding the high prices that a k0-k6 would.
If it works good, it looks good...

have you given any thought to putting it on a on line auction ?    try  bring a trailer  ( bat)   it will cost 99 bucks and you can set a reserve .  i have seen just ok bikes bring good money .    sounds like you have done all the hard work and all it needs is some tlc .   just a thought .

I'm waaaay too far into my 75F restoration.  Up here in Toronto, prices aren't comparable to the US.

At $3K US for your bike in its current state, I would have far better off than dumping what I have into mine lol.

Thanks all. So general consensus is $3.5-4k in California as long as the bike runs well.

The bars are whatever came with the bike when I found it in a barn. They look to be period correct, and fit well. They are a little lower profile than stock I believe but im not sure, with the switch wires routed internally.

This bike was actually raced back in the day. A bunch of cool parts like an old yoshi race transmission and pistons came out of the engine.

Correct bars are a -341 part number from a K (year?) model. They are taller than many.

Yessir! I split the case to replace bearings, primary chains and seals. I was amazed and confused when I saw the transmission. Another experienced forum member helped me identify the trans and later purchased it for his own race motor.
