Starter Solenoid replacement

Hello All,
I hope someone can help me. I have 1973 CB750. I just purchased replacement starter solenoid from 4into1.com (universal) that looks very close to OEM i'm replacing but the wires are different colors and male/female are reversed (i think). Please take a look at the attached picture and provide some direction as to which wires should be used. Just in case the picture don't show colors correctly, the original is yellow with red stripe female and solid black is male. Replacement one is yellow with red stripe male and green with red stripe female.

  • CB 750 K0 ( always thought it was a K1!) + CB750K8

Hey new guy ! So the wire colors do not have to match up on the solenoid. Just fit the connectors to their 'mate'. Looks like Y/Red to BL/BR and Black to Yel/Red on the new solenoid in this case, all good.

Thank you for quick reply guys, since this is 73 model, one of the changes was the safety switch that ties starter solenoid to the neutral switch and or/if in gear to the clutch lever switch. I just want to make sure i don't have to change male/female connectors and reverse them as I don't know which wires match the old one. This would be super easy as it would save time but i also don't want to burn out new solenoid.

The solenoid is a simple electromagnet, and it makes no difference which end of the coil is connected to positive or negative; just use whichever connector that plugs in to your harness. ;)

I know reversing thick cables makes no difference on electromagnetic switch but the thin ones do make a difference to work properly with safety switch. Can you please confirm that on 73 cb750 with first year with safety switch reversing thin wires makes no difference either?

Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

Absolutely no issue. Coil wires can be either way - one gets ground and the other gets power. Regardless of whether you have switched power or switched ground (ie the safety diode or module). No difference with the high current leads to the studs either.
SOme non-standard solenoid switches from lawn tractors, snowmobiles, etc DO have one wire internally grounded with only one coil wire coming out but you aren't trying to use one of those. I have added an extra relay to use one on a bike with switched ground.
