I am wanting to replace the faces on both speedo and tachometer. Is this a practical DIY or does it need special tools?

Use the search facility on this site - there is a wealth of information on this topic.
The main issue is removing and refitting the steel ring that holds the instruments together.
Ebay has a ton of new faces available.

+1 on searching here and there are some pics that help. I've done a set, and as stated, it's crimping that steel ring back on that is " fun".
