Newbie to the SOHC
« on: January 16, 2020, 12:20:45 PM »
Hello all, just picked up a 78 cb750K, with 22,944 miles on it. Been riding my 83 cb650sc for the last year, & before that, hadn’t ridden since 02. Rode Norton motorcycles for decades & sold my last three in 2012.
The 78, is is good shape, one owner, a Harley mechanic for Norfolk HD for 30 years. Not wanting to deal with getting it started for the first time, took it my friends shop & it passed the compression test, with a score of 180 across the board! Once the carbs are cleaned, it’s going on the dyno, and ran through the gears, easily & tuned ! Then it’s new shoes time with inspection of spokes, bearings & brakes, then neck bearings. Not sure if I’ll just replace the 630 or go for the 530 conversion, though at some point will.
First ride will be with the fairing & then will make my decision on nay or stay!
Am in Richmond va., and will be riding all around Va, then heading out west to see my family in Wa.

Welcome from NE MN,

For the ride to WA, I would keep the fairing.

Howdy Byron
I agree if you are going to ride cross country keep the fairing on. I used to ride my 76 cross country without a fairing back in the 70s when I was younger and more versatile to the ravages of wind and weather......
Nowadays my cross country rides(twice a year) are on a Goldwing(my Buick as my friends call it).

Did you get it running?
