The cb 750 only uses 2 special tools. Clutch tool, and alternator rotor puller. You can rebuild motor without pulling alternator rotor.. the rest are regular or universal tools. You may need 1/4 drive 10 mm socket in a few places.

Isn’t most of this information in the shop manual and parts guide?

Try manuals.sohc4.net.

They might not be available there for every SOHC/4 bike though I add them as I find them.

Going through a rebuild now and I can tell you that a manual impact driver is an absolute must! Virtually every screw was stripped and seized. Get an engine bolt set on ebay and get rid of those JIS screws.

Read Marks book before you begin any specific system.  I can’t believe I did the head bearings cold. Almost rally f’ed up.  Don’t reinvent the wheel. It’s ALL in there. Go slow. Measure twice. Cut once.

Most of the gasket sets don't have the seal set included. APE has the heavy duty head studs and also main studs if you are so inclined. Many times the rod and main bearings look good and are re-used. I got bearings from Yamiya about as quick as any stateside parts seller. Just my two cents.

EBC Brakes ct076 clutch basket tool

Vessel 146033 2400 Impacta Driver with JIS bits

1/4” drive high quality inch pound torque wrench 40-250” lbs (make sure it’s stored on the lowest setting and make sure it’s been calibrated)

3/8” drive foot pound torque wrench

Deep 10 and 12mm sockets (as well as all the typical sockets)

Clutch Center Nut Removal Tool (looks like a socket with four tabs)

Micrometer

Dial Gauge

Useful:
1/4” T hand wrench

If replacing parts with Allen head, a set of 1/4” driven metric Allen sockets

I’m sure there a few things I missed.

ThreeBond 1184 for sealing case halves
Extra Motor oil for lubing o-rings
Assembly Lube
I’d get a double order from cycle x of their cb750 rebuild kit if you haven’t done a lot of this. Easy to pinch an o-ring.
2 Primary chains if doing a bottom rebuild (hard to find, Cycle X has them).
Cam chain, get one with a master link if doing a top end rebuild, one without (aka a solid chain) if doing a bottom end rebuild. Apparently the master link tool is expensive and hard to find. Some Honda motorcycle dealers have one they will loan out.

I had my head done for me at a machine shop with a three angle valve grind and cycle x rebuilt the water pump.

Ken at cycle X is really helpful at finding replacements for any damaged or worn parts that you need once you inspect everything. Can’t recommend them enough.

Couple little o-rings aren’t in the cycle x kit. There is an o-ring in that piece that depresses the clutch and one behind the stud on the crankshaft. There is a little rubber stopper under the shifter cover. And on the front of the case there is a coin driven oil path plug that has a o-ring. So those need to be purchased separately. On Partzilla they have some engine diagrams under “bikes with no years” for the cb750k. You can search there and order those four.

I replaced all my transmission bearings. Either a bearing shop for cheap bearings, but you’ll need to pull the bearings and take them with you or Cycle X has a set of bearings. I went with those, they are a step up, high quality. They don’t include the small clutch bearing. So you’ll need to order that separately. Transmission circlips will be needed if going into the transmission.

The cylinders have little clips at each end of the pin that need to be replaced.

New piston rings will be needed.

Need a new chain tensioner depending on the mileage. And a new cam chain tensioner.

I read to buy oem pucks in the head so I’ve done that rather than use the ones included in the cycle X kit.

A few gallons of Kerosene for cleaning (very flammable FYI, make sure there is adequate ventilation, and you follow all safety protocols.)

I had the head, cylinders and crankcase once stripped down taken to a parts washer at a machine shop. Hot water tank, media or glass blasting are other options, but more expensive.

I’d have acetone, brake cleaner, and carb cleaner, silicone spray, WD-40 on hand.
