Today's auction is on now on
A reasonable 400f (though with a big rust hole under the exhaust, so who knows what the rest of it is like), just made $4k and a nice 450 Black Bomber just made $6.5k

For my life, I cannot understand why the ridiculous auctioneer-speak.  He occasionally stops and speaks like a human being - what a relief!

Anyway, it's certainly fun to watch!
Ummmm .... Have you ever been to an auction before  ?

Yes... why do you ask?

The auction chant is part of nearly every auction. You get used to it pretty quick .

Looking at yesterday's prices, everything still seems pretty reasonable. A few big dollar sales from the usual suspects like Vincent. A few sellers seem to have unrealistic reserves. An 80's single shock 3/4 fared GPz 1100 hit $4,300 and didn't sell but a similar vintage 750 hit $4,100 and did. Only one SOHC 750 that I see, a '73 I think with twin turn out style replacement mufflers that went for $3,800.

There is a nice K1 today.

Yes, I thought the prices were reasonable, and perhaps a bit better than the day before. I was a bit surprised by that barbie coloured S90 making $8k, and the early Hayabusa at over $7k too. Those brand new 550 Kawas for $2k each seem quite a bargain though.

I am again amazed by what Z50's and the CT series Hondas are going for. $3,850 for a CT70 or $4,500 for a 2011 Monkey just seems crazy to me

Yes, good spot - the brake line has a long loop too.
Going by how much this one made, it shall not matter too much I suspect  https://www.mecum.com/lots/LV0120-391406/1973-honda-cb750/

Prices are definitely up today

I don't get that either, but they seem to be going for less nowadays, i'm sure one made over $15k a year or 2 ago. I wouldn't give $500 myself, can't see anything in them.

A friend had a Christmas special Z50. I should have bought it from him. Instead I told him what they are selling for.
A Vic World restored 3 digit sandcast went for $40,000 plus. Mine isn't 3 digits or Vic World restored so I can still ride it. L0L. It is however, sneaking up on 10K miles.

This is the craziest price I have seen so far. I don't care if it is a 0 mile never ridden bike. It's still just a CB900 Custom. Not collectible in any way and probably the most common of the DOHC4 Hondas. $9k is just insane.

The numbers are telling me it's time to put my Diecast's stock rims on it and move the Lester mags to a less original  bike.

I would have guessed these two would have sold for more (both are in very nice condition):

CB750K0 went for $11.5K: https://www.mecum.com/lots/LV0120-392041/1969-honda-cb750-ko/
CB750K0  went for $8K https://www.mecum.com/lots/LV0120-392051/1970-honda-cb750/

It appears the K0's did well and the Sandcast's seem a little weaker. I've seen the Sandcast with the painted fenders somewhere. Was it a members bike or just a topic of discussion?

Not directly, AFAIK. I've been going to the Mecum site and looking at the lot numbers of bikes that I'm curious about. Then I look at the YT video for the corresponding day and scroll while looking at the lot numbers displayed in the upper left corner until I reach the one I'm looking for.

Yes you can see the prices if you log in. It's easy to get an account to log in, I think, I must have created mine a year or 2 ago. Once you log in the prices on the sold ones (including commission etc) show up. Here's a screen grab of a search I just did for early 750s, the ones that have sold have the prices above their photos.

Just got back from the Mecum Vegas auction.  Sold a little 1969 Z50 which I bought last year since it was exactly like the one I had when I was a kid.  After buying it though, the nostalgia faded quick since it was too nice for the grandkids to ride.  When the wife said "what are you going to do with that?", I said we are going to Vegas and sell it at auction.  Just for amusement really, and it was pretty fun.  The Mecum folks have this thing down pat but they are also really helpful and efficient, they also make good money from every angle.  6% to sell at no reserve, 10% with a reserve, plus there is a cost to register your bike, $250 on Wednesday, goes up each day after that.  There is a minimum commission also.  If you sold on Friday, you would owe at least $1000 to Mecum. For buying, $200 for the right to bid, plus 10% buyers commission.

I was surprised also at the K3 going for 16k (plus 10%).  I don't know better but I told my wife the paint had too much flake in it.  Later I heard someone telling his buddies the same thing.  Some bikes seemed surprisingly cheap, others way too expensive for what they were.  My suggestion if you go to sell, say it comes from the "insert your name here" collection.  Highly original and looking new, or garishly restored bring big bucks.

Steve-O,
I was looking at all the Z1s and told the wife I wanted one some day ( a rider though) and guesstimated the prices.  I was way off, they brought way more than I realized which she pointed out of course.

Anyway, it was fun.  My z50 was bike W203, older restoration probably, some problems with the paint, but only sold for 500-1000 less than the perfect ones, I was happy.

Hey Rich..sounds like a fun time.  You should def buy a Z1 when you find the right one for you.
I may bring mine to Harvest Classic later this year and will let you ride it if you'd like, but it's def not for sale!

PS. Your wife is a gem!  Mine would never consider going to a vehicle auction.
