Identifying K vs F1 vs F2 engine Components
« on: January 19, 2020, 07:13:30 PM »
So I recently bought a garage full of parts that has a mixture (I think) of K, F1 (NZ did not get the F0 model) and F2 engine components.
How do I tell the difference between a K, F1 and F2 head ?
How do I tell the difference between the cylinder blocks of these models ?
What else is different engine wise ?
I also got a no number set of cases with these parts. Could these be replacement cases for any of these models, or did Honda only supply them for early K models ?
Thanks for your help.

F1 has # 392 F2 & F3 has # 410.

But, 77/78k , I think has 392 also.

392 has the small valves and 410 has large valves.

This may answer some more of your questions.
The F has some different transmission ratios.

F2/3 were painted black at the factory, 392 head also came on 750A but that's trivia. I believe F2/3 had the motor vin pad turned 90*.  Some replacement cases were never stamped for the engine number. The output shaft bearing varied in width, that may be a way to tell one era K from another without numbers.

Pistons on a 75/76 F and 77/78 K (not sure about the A's) BOTH have 392 cast near the wrist pin. However the domes may differ even with the 392 casting. My original 75 F 392 pistons had a full dome and my 78 K 392 pistons had a partial dome.
