Just because they say it ca be done dont mean its safe or will last.
I have a so called 605 kit for a 500which comes with new thicker liners so you have to bore the alloy block to fit new linersthen bore the new liners to fit the new pistons----good job i got my own boring bar!!!

Ah, the old 590cc kits sold as "605" kits Bryan, I think I've got a set of new sleeves for one of them out in my garage somewhere, I remember installing the pistons but not using the sleeves? It's pretty vague now because it was probably 15 years ago, but I presume I bored the 550 cylinders out for the 590 pistons?

I looked at that Trade Me site and learned that Caluser's name is Mark, so I won't have to call him "Mate" now, "Mate" is what I call everyone until I find out what their name is, there are some folks at the barracks that I've been calling "Mate" for years because I don't know what their name is, or in some cases, can't pronounce them.......... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Yup, i got a set of 550's that only cleaned up at 1mm o/s, and i got 1 500 with a set of the gx pistons from your neck of the woods at +0.5(higher comp dome), a set of 500 with 550 +0.5 pistons plus this 605 kit to do.
Must get the bar out again and do some work!!

Good pistons with a little bit extra compression is the ticket to harvest eventual other engine upgrades.
Head job with good seats, guides and valves a must if long time ago as it usually is on these bikes.
