New from Michigan
« on: May 24, 2020, 09:49:57 PM »

I’m Kyle I am new to this forum. After 8-9 years of not having a toy I finally bought one. I have a 1974 cb550 that needs some tlc but excited to finally have a project and get back into the garage again. Anyone from the metro Detroit area please message me I would like to meet and talk to others that share the passion. I had all the toys and enjoyed the fast life then had a large family (7 kids) and all my money and time went to them. I was in the Air Force for 10 years now I’m a civilian for the Army. I’m doing a refresher of getting my mechanical side going and hopefully get back into pinstriping again. Haven’t been on a forum in almost 10 years and hopefully I can share help others as I’m sure I will be asking a million questions that have probably been asked already. Unfortunately I just realized I haven’t taken any pictures since I bought it but here is the picture right before I bought it. Goal is to make it a daily driver and hopefully the beginning of building bikes.

Sorry if this is a duplicate( didn’t see my first one post)

I will post a picture of the bike as soon as I figure out how to post it. My pictures aren’t posting for some reason.

Welcome to the forum Kyle.I think you need to make a few more posts to the forum before pictures work.
When I first joined,I think 10 posts were necessary.

Hi Kyle, and welcome to sohc4
I have had to reduce photo sizes to about 1mb, 5 or 10mb won't go in
Seven kids wow!
Are you a returning rider? Got your endorsement?
I don't know that my CB has ever been to Rochester, up M24 to Caseville/Port Austin is what I remember. A sunset ride along M25 is super.

Partially returning rider, first street bike I’ve personally owned. Have drove friends bikes 10+ years ago. Finally went and did the endorsement about 8 years ago but then couldn’t never justify buying a bike. Also I didn’t think about that drive with a bike! That would be awesome on a nice summer day!

Welcome from Texas.

Yes, photos prolly are too large to post.  A lot of us join flickr.com [free],  upload pics there and then copy and paste here. Simple.

Welcome from the North Shore of Lake Superior,

The 550 is capable of some serious miles and speeds.  More than able to run 80mph actual on I75.  (Did that last year from Soo to St. Ignace.)

As soon as I can find new carbs I will be on the road with it! Mainly only drive m-59/hall road daily. If I get it running good would like the make the trip along the thumb!

As soon as I can find new carbs...

What is wrong with your carbs?

If you indeed need carbs, start a thread in the Parts Wanted area of this forum.

Bought the bike with 750 carbs on it. Trying to find 550 carbs to get the bike back to life. I started a wanted ad the first day I got on here!

Hi john,

Great meeting you also! Just placed my order at 4into1 and will get that front end on when the parts come in! Still shooting to be on the road by June 2nd as long as I can find these carbs for less then 600 bucks!

Trying to find 550 carbs to get the bike back to life.

My buddy may have a rack, I'll give him a call, find out what model [might be off his 500 which would work]
