New bike and turn signal indicator
« on: January 23, 2020, 05:00:12 AM »
Chaps

Newbie here - good afternoon to all. Just purchased a rather splendid 75 400/4. As you do, just fettling it somewhat before a test run and the L/H turn signal indicator - the pea lamp near the ignition - is u/s. L/H when sitting on the bike that is. Transpires that the orange feed wire is dead - in so far as there is no continuity between it and the rest of the orange wire feed circuit. Indicators themselves work fine. Earth is fine. Tried swapping pea lamps - still dead. Therefore it seems that this take off feed to the pea lamp has come away somewhere. Presumably there is a double connector or something somewhere that may have come away - in the headlamp shell perhaps?

All thoughts very welcome.

Incidentally, I smashed one of the pea lamps! Where for spares please - Dave Silver/Ebay? Are these things pretty commonplace?

Not sure if they're common or not, but you can always put a taller bulb in there.

The connection you're looking for is inside the headlight bucket. Just undo the two Phillips screws on the side and carefully swivel the sealed beam downwards (so not to crack the tab at the top of the bucket).

There should be an orange multi connector in there. If you have signal to the front indicator, there is power to that connector. Check if the bullet connector going to the dash is tight or even connected.

Cheers for that. Bulbs are bobbins from Silver

Ten same fit LEDs are £2.75 delivered. That will do the pilot lamp, both clocks and all the warning lamps.

LEDs - interesting. Would the flasher unit need to be changed out though to cope with them?

I used LED replacements from Amazon for my indicator panel. Perfect drop in replacement and way brighter. Not sure about the turn signal flasher question if you're replacing the signal bulbs it'd probably be a good idea to get a new flasher relay. They're super cheap and most you get at Auto places say they're suitable for LED

If you are changing the warning lamps, no. If you are changing the indicator bulbs as well, than yes. The solid state relays are cheap and adjustable for speed. They only have two terminals. One is to the switch, usually  marked E but the other goes to the bulbs and is marked L for "load". The earth terminal is not connected. The correct type of bulb is BAU15S but be careful not to buy those that are too long to fit the Honda fittings.
