new bike
« on: February 06, 2007, 02:53:41 PM »
you talked me in to keeping my 750f
now help me decide on a new bike this spring
in one corner we have the harley sporter 1200r , ran strong, plenty of aftermarket parts, looks good, set up like a old road racer bike
only bad thing is that it's a harley
in the other corner we have the honda 919
looks good except fpr the bone ugly fuel tank, never drove it,sits like my old 750 supposed to have lots of power and handle well
right now the only bad thing is the bone ugly fuel tank
which one?

Go with the HD !
That Honda is nasty looking (no matter how much power it has)

No contest. Go for the Honda! I had the pleasure of breaking in a students bike and was very impressed by the handling and power, even at 'restrained' speeds.

And there are way fewer of them on the road so you'll have a degree of exclusivety.

I kind of like the way the XL1200N looks.
I can't tell from the pictures, but if that Harley you're interested in has feet-forward controls, then forget it.
That said, the 2 aren't remotely similar, so it's hard to take this question serious.  I hope this isn't a Harley bash because I'm really kind of sick of them.  Harley is a different style of ride, but it's a good bike.

Go for the 919, a really nice looking naked bike in my opinion.
Proteal would like it if it was flat black :)

Tough call, the Harley will handle bout the same on the freeway as the 750.  And the 919 is at home on the freeway, but a bit needy in town at 20-30mph.  I borrow my dads 01 Sporty on occasion for no reason at all and they are nice in and around town at 120mi on a fill.

No question for me, I'd go for the Honda. There are those who like the H-Ds and that's their prerogative, but not mine. MOHO!

yeah I would have to do the 919 also.  Gear the 750 for around town and some highway use. Get the 919 for the high speeds.

Hey Tramp,
Are these bikes for sale by people you know?  If so where are you located?
Take the Harley and I'll be more than happy to take the Honda off that guys hands if he's just sitting on it! ;D

Seriously, take the Naked bike!  It's a better performer all around!
Or are you of the "form over function" persuasion? :-\

The 919 is the only new bike I would even consider buying.  I've been lusting after one for about a year, and its the background on my computer desktop right now.  That being said, you are talking about 2 different things, one is a motorcycle and the other is a Harley. ;D  No one buys a Harley because they want a motorcycle, they buy a Harley because they want a Harley; there are plenty of other bikes out there that look the same, with the same or better quality and reliability, and at a lower cost.  Nothing against Harleys (they produce a quality product, it just isn't my particular cup of tea) but the majority are bought as a fashion statement as well as a demonstration of individual wealth, neither of which impress me. ::)

I would guess if you asked this question at a Harley site, the bias would tilt a different direction.
Funny thing- guys like Inky don't have computers.  Inky rides his Harley all over the country and comes out from San Francisco to visit every now and then.
We never got to ride the Dragon, so on his way out of town I took him to a sort of "mini-Dragon" up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I figured I'd let him go in front so we could go at his pace.  I was on my GB500 and I've been on that road a bunch of times.  I saw his tail light disappear after 2 turns.  When I caught up to him, he wasn't even breaking a sweat.

Well ..... there are Harley riders and "Harley Owners"  ;)

I guess we know which category Inky fits.

Out of those two I would rock the honda unless your trying to get girls then I would get the HD....  In the real world I would get neither. right now I am beating my self up over the buell lightning XB12Scg or a Ducati monster.. I am leaning towards the buell.. just looks meaner.

HOT DAMN talk about ment to be. After replying to your post I popped by the local HD dealer on the way home from work to see if they had the new buell XB12Ssc(granted I cannot really afford a 10.5k bike right now). They had like 3 buells on the floor, all 07's and none of them the XB12Ssc. Well a sales rep catches me on the way out and I give him the run down why I was there and the fact I dont really have the money any ways. He asks if im sold on the 07 XB because they have a 06(400 miles,  5 months warranty left) and 05(1000 miles, no warranty) XB9 city.

Hmm he got a spark in me.. So mainly checked out the bikes which they where both super clean and they want 7900 for the 05 and 8500 for the 06. At that I point I said see ya since the price is pretty much right up there w/ a new one.. well you knows sales people they yak and yak. Well to get him off my back I said "Hey the most I can spend is 6500 and I dont want a bike w/o a warranty when im spending that much money." He asks me to wait... He comes back and says he can let the 06 go for 7k but nothing lower and if I put 500 down the I can get it for 6500(ha nice logic). My reply "WTF is wrong w/ the bike since that is a damn good deal for a 06." and I was curious what they would take for the 05 at this point haha. He said the bike has no flaws except not being new, its always been in the HD ownership and they are trying to get the old buells out since the riding season is coming up so its time to sell the new bikes.

The way I see it if I can get a 5% or lower interest rate then my payment will be 110 or lower.. heck I put more then that in my cb550 a month. So saturday morning I will go and see how the financing goes, if all goes well I will post pics.

thanks tramp for provoking me to be in the right place on the right time.

Cafe E,
I also looked at the Buell, MV Brutale, Monster, Yamaha FZ1,FZ6, Honda 919, Honda 599, etc....
Then I found a REAL naked sport bike. I got myself an '07 Triumph Speed Triple!!!!! IMO you will not find a BETTER naked bike for the money......looked it up/read up.... ;D
