Alternate Caliper on cb500
« on: January 31, 2020, 02:17:46 PM »
Scenario - I have 2 piston Brembo calipers, thinking of grafting to the 500's caliper bracket. Anyone seen it done?

We talked about this a while back. Don't think anyone ever came up with a solution.

A better option might be to find a front end from a 77-78 750F. Those have calipers attached in the more modern way via brackets and lugs on the back of the lower. Your 500 wheel (and also the rotor I think) will work just fine and fabing up a bracket should be easier too. The fork tubes are longer, so you will need to slide them up your triple or get shorter tubes, but I think the tube diameter is the same, so your stock triple should work.

Thanks for that info! That's definitely an easier approach... I do so much like the look of the 500 front reaching caliper tho ;)

Swap sides and put them in front then.

he is not joking...although he meant putting them in back.  Has been done.  I don't really think the caliper being behind the leg makes a huge difference on braking power...at least not these calipers.

If you like the stock look, the easiest 500 front brake improvement is to use a 750 F0/F1 K7/K8 caliper, with a 750 rotor. The caliper has a larger piston, and the rotor is 20mm larger diameter. They will bolt right on to your 550, and you could probably buy the parts for $100, maybe less. Anything better than this requires a fork swap, and if you go that route, you might as well go to the F2/F3 forks Danny mentioned.
