REALLY dumb question. You guys will probably laugh.
« on: November 04, 2019, 07:05:26 pm »
1977 CB750K. I've been thinking about this for a while and figured I'd finally ask. I got my bike and the rear tank rubber was missing. I used a folded up rag as a cushion for the tank so it didn't rattle while I worked on it/test drove. I finally bought the rear rubber and this might sound really dumb I have NO idea how this is supposed to work. There are little hooks on the frame that slip in to slots on the rubber and the rubber has a slot that slips over the piece of metal that sticks out under the tank but they seem mutually exclusive. Like while one is attached, you cant get the other attached. Am I missing something? Shop manual is of no use. Feel free to laugh haha.

Whyyyy couldn't they have just used a bolt or two and some rubber bushings? Haha. That's the only thing I dislike about this bike honestly.

you will figure it out...then you will get used to how super nice it is to have the tank come off and stay secure with no tools required
If it works good, it looks good...

Slide the rear tank support onto the frame tabs with the triangular "pull tab" facing to the rear. Set the tank in place with the forward tank supports engaged and the rear resting on the rear tank support. Grab the "pull tab" on the rear support and stretch it over the rear flange on the tank. I usually work one side in and then the other.

Oh my gosh I had that pull tab facing forward so I had no way to pull on it lol. I had it on the tank and then was pushing it back until it slipped on to the frame mounts and it was a huge pain. Hahaha! Thank you for explaining that.

I'll admit it, there was a time when I scratched my head trying to install it too!

As you found found out, if it is backwards, it will not work.
