77 CB550K rec/reg for lithium battery
« on: February 02, 2020, 12:49:06 PM »
Hey I bought a lithium battery for my 77’ 550k and I might as well do the rec/reg while I’m at it. I bought a Shorai and it says it needs to be a constant 13.2 volts and max output of 15.3. Do I need to do the lithium specific combo like the ricks or is it safe to do just any? I can’t see it constantly charging over 15 volts while cruising or high rpms. Also looking for recommendations on the combo units.

Problems with the ricks or the lithium specific combos? I’ve read lots of threads but there’s nothing really specific to my question out there

Where did you get those numbers from??? The "ideal" charging voltage for a Shorai is between 13.9-14.4V, with a maximum of 14.8V. The standard solid-state Rick's reg/rect would allow the voltage to get higher than that, so they came out with a "lithium specific" version that limits the voltage to 14V, plus or minus .2V.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

It’s right on the page for the battery I bought

There should have been 2 pages in the box with your battery: one is the LFX "manual", and the other is "Tips from Doc megawatt... Save time, trouble, and money".
On the first part of the "manual" under Cautions is where the maximum voltage is listed as 14.8V. The "ideal" charging voltage range is shown on the box...
