Front wheel GSXR750 needed ( Front Rim identification - Solved )
« on: February 01, 2020, 07:49:03 AM »

Does anybody know from what bike this 18" alloy front wheel is ?
It's not an Suzuki GSXR 84-86 era, due to the big axle swirl and the double ribs, but it has a 'similar' spoke pattern.
So at first I thought another Suzuki model of that era or an early Kawasaki, but I can't match it anywhere on the WWW.

The rim has no markings whatsoever btw.

early 80's honda vf750 RC07 (before the interceptor)

Purchased such a rim when trying to make the 110 conti radial front to work, but as it's a 2.50, too narrow.....

if you need another one just let me know, mine is not doing much :)

Who else ;)
Thanks Yossef !

Saves me wracking my brain.... don't need another one of those though  :-\

Explanation: I bought a set of advertised 'race' wheels + front end a little too quickly, based on the fact I noticed that the rear was indeed GSXR750 84-87...
So I thought the whole lot was GSXR ( you know..having to be lighting quick these days with Ebay and such if something of interest pops up )

Having the parts in hand now;
The front-end turned out to be a GS1000... and the front wheel as we now know, not even Suzuki.
Should have investigated it a bit better. Lesson learned the hard way :-X.
Let me see if I can recoup a little of money llost if I advertise this front wheel and front end as what they are on the local craigslist.
Too much scrap laying around already.

If anyone has an early (84-87) 6 spoke GSXR750 front wheel (or front end) for that matter... or knows someone who does... let me know !

The only ones I could find so far were damaged.

well, as a past owner of a 1st gen GSXR 750, i can tell you that those 6 spoke wheels had paper thin castings (no wonder they were light),they cracked just from normal street use, no wonder that not many of them survived, check the radii area where the spoke meets the rim also on your rear wheel.
Wouldn't recommend those crack prone wheels for racing unless perfect to begin with and constantly monitored for cracks
Maybe ok for a 10 points restoration / parade GSXR....

Good to know Yossef. Will check the rear. I still see them used a lot on race bikes, for the light weight reason, and from the few owners I have spoken on the track I did not heard those experiences..I just thought they scarce cause they and were highly sought after today for the above reasons and not that many to begin with.
I do hear those stories on the magnesium wheels from back in the days though.

( Actually noticed tonight you can been buy the gsxr wheels new, although I am not going to do that for obvious reasons ).

Any recommendations for other affordable 18" models ?
