2000 XR70R
« on: February 05, 2020, 04:45:53 PM »
I have possession of a decent example of an 2000 Xr70r. The seller wants $800 for it, came down to $700. The only thing I see wrong is the decal above the exhaust is a little heat browned. One owner, never raced just around and around the yard until it became a track.
I was thinking it was a smaller training wheel bike but grandkids will get bigger, right? In the meantime I have an old cat mini bike that needs recommissioning, new cables etc.
I'm thinking it's a fair price for it.  Sound about right?

If a browned decal is the worst of it, it sounds good.  Those things don't seem to drop below $500 these days even when they're beat to hell as long as they're running.  I couldn't find a Honda 70 around here for less than a grand, so I bought a new SSR SR70.  How old / big are the grandkids?

They aren't big enough yet, from 8 years down to 8 months.  We decided to grab it while we can, My daughter can ride it in the pits at the drag strip until the grandkids can ride it.
My buddy that has a mom and pop bike shop said get it, he checked into a new one for his grandkids. $3,000 plus tax his price. He paid a grand for a used one.  He owes me a favor, he had a Christmas special monkey bike in the showroom and had no idea what they are selling for. I could have bought it and doubled my money (or more) but I clued him in on the prices. The guy assembled my sandcast new and the next diecast bike which he still has today. My blue green is probably the third one. I'm going to make another try at buying his bike.

We bought it, I need to find a spot in the museum (my shop) to park it. Maybe up on the shelf with the drag bike. The seller only had it the last 5 years, they said it looked new then. They have a service manual also. Score.
Edit, my oldest granddaughter sat in it and fits well. She's not ready to ride yet but in time she will.

Those are great little Hondas.. My wife and I bought a new 2000 XR70R for our daughters to ride. My 4 year old son at that time had commandeered the TRX70 the girls grew up on. Soon afterwards I noticed two straw bales parallel with a gap between them in the yard. My girls had taught him how to ride it. The straw bales were for his feet so he could launch and land.

I have one about the same year. I went through it and it works great.....the engine is as quiet as a sewing machine.

I think the 8 year old was impressed when I started it in gear, revved it up and almost pulled a wheelie into the shop.  I need to get cables and a magnetron flywheel for the 3hp briggs on the cat slingshot mini bike, that will be a better starter bike. Right now they live on a busy street, the back yard is smaller and fenced in, they don't even ride bikes much.

Slower 60' times than the 1.03 the long car turns. 3G's is a hoot. The 383 small block pulled almost this hard then it fell off, the 567 big block pulls hard almost to the stripe. It's going close to 60mph in that one second too. I'd love to throw a set of 2:90 gears in it and go to the mile.
I don't know how the riders stay on those fuel bikes, It's an amazing feeling when you're surrounded by a Dragster roll cage, hanging on to handlebars and a seat hump has to be a bigger rush. Heck, We'd need a 300 hp shot of nitrous just to hang with a pro stock bike.

I rode my 4 year old grandson a lap of the yard and noticed a broken engine cover. Apparently it had a chain break some time. $60 got a nos cover for it today. The sticker supply has dried up for it though, I'll watch for a decent set and grab them whatever the cost. He's riding a push bike like a wild man and on the XR he twists the throttle like he knows what he's doing. My daughter has a couple helmets here, we'll see if one fits.

I have the broken engine cover replacement and I ordered a Honda wings decal set tonight. It got a new petcock recently but hasn't been ridden a lot. Maybe it's a mini snow/ice machine, not sure if it has enough knobbie for zip screws.
A friend had an xr75 at Davenport last year, it was painted and street bike's. the little F'er was pretty cool.
