Hello SOHC4,
Well I finally had a minute to try this from my computer. I have been trying to upload from my phone and my post would disappear when adding pictures.I bought this bike in Lake Mcconaughy, Nebraska. I gave 500.00 for it and it was /is ugly! I also received a second engine (Seized) and an extra set of carbs. I will be looking to find another bike once this one is complete. Ideally a titled frame with no engine. I am excited to be a part of this forum and for the vast amounts of knowledge people are willing to share. I have been following for SOHC4 for awhile brain storming what direction I wanted to take my project. It has been sitting in the shed for over a year. I finally broke it out in November and began to tear it down. I have decided I want to go with a mostly original design in my build. I had an 81' 750f which was a basket case also that I built a cafe racer out of. I had a desire to find a SOHC bike from the beginning when building that project. By mostly I don't think I have the funds for OEM exhaust at this point. I may run some after market handlebars. I will not cut anything off this bike! I feel they are becoming harder to find even in the last couple of years that I've been searching. I plan to keep photo records of my work and try to keep up on this thread. I just ordered HondaMan's book a few minutes ago so I'll be looking forward to that. I am currently overhauling the engine and waiting for several part shipments while I clean and clean.

Here are a few pictures of my progress. I have not yet set up a photo bucket acct. I am still trying to figure out the best way to upload pics. Tear down and cleaning has taken several weeks. I built a DIY Vapor blast cabinet watching a couple of guys using them on youtube. Vapor blasting is awesome by the way.
I went the cheap route with the cabinet but it works great. I have parts orders from three vendors coming. This weekend I plan to complete media blasting with glass bead as I have only used aluminum oxide so far.

I'll look around in daylight tomorrow: I might have the rear fender parts if you are going stock. I spent all day today digging snow !

Yeah let me know what you got. I have some of the rear end parts. I wouldn't say they are in usable condition.

I didn't get dug all the way to the shed yet. We had 2 feet of snow Friday night, and it's been snowing all today, too! I'm tired of shoveling...

A couple pics of the project. I'm currently prepping for paint. I decided to paint the cases before assembly to avoid painting gaskets. My parts from HPD finally arrived. All I need now is time to move forward. Hopefully this week will be warm enough to paint.

Nice project.
I'm not a fan of snow either.
Here, it shows up on top of Haleakala once in awhile. Great entertainment for those that will drive all the way up there.

I was gone most of the weekend but found time to paint the cases today. I am hoping to have everything ready to assemble this week. I am having fun and learning a ton. I have been reading HondaMan's book It has me looking forward and excited for the next build, I will be looking to learn/apply some performance upgrades on the next one. All the feedback in this forum has been great I appreciate all the members who are kind enough to share knowledge.

I decided to paint before assembly to avoid painting gaskets. Hopefully I won't have too much touch up to do later!

I also received the oil pump overhaul kit and had a little time the other day to get it rebuilt.

This is all I have for now. Once the engine is back together I need to figure out a plan for polishing the side covers.

I spent the day cleaning parts and working on the bottom end assembly. I have the cases together for a test fit. Today I hope to double check all internals and cleanliness one last time before I seal it up.

I'm starting to see the build come together. Until now it's been mostly cleaning and studying. Once I button up the cases and top end. I'll be covering it up to start polishing covers. I will be looking into parts for the frame , wheels and suspension in the weeks to come.

Hey K5, your engine rebuild is looking great.
Is junior paying attention? Lots to be learned for him. My dad gave me a torque wrench for Christmas when I was a young'un. Still have it, it is in good shape and I use it.
There's a shift fork that has to be engaged correctly, when mating the cases. You're probably on this already, not too difficult to get it right.

I did a test fit yesterday to make sure I can assemble without touching the Hondabond. I wanted to be sure everything fit and fell into place. My Son has his moments of being interested. He's 6 do its hit or miss. We got him a tool set this last holiday season. My Father is also a mechanic by trade and gifted me my first set of SnapOn drivers when I was young. I still have a couple unfortunately I do not have the complete set.

I purchased that kit at Vintagecb750.com. I've seen positive feedback on the complete kit they sell on Amazon as well. I purchased the new screen separate from the overhaul kit.

Well with all that's going on I have continued to keep my mind occupied with my restoration project. I have hopes that one day I will be able to ride it! I haven't updated my project in awhile so here are a few pics if anyone is interested. I have had awesome insight from others here including HondaMan and his book. I currently have my swing arm in HondaMan's shop getting bushings replaced. I'm am getting ready to start with the frame and suspension restoration. I have all but completed the engine overhaul. Still finishing up some odds and ends and waiting for cover screws from HPD. I just received my front fork upgrade from Cycle X on Friday. Things are looking up!

Another member here designed that ring compression tool. I wish I new who to thank as I was just reading through other posts when I saw his design. It worked great!

I did get the O-Rings in here. I was test fitting and realized I was missing important parts!

Moving forward this process was tedious. I was super OCD about cleanliness. I would still be cleaning if I didn't just get over it.

While waiting for the Cylinder to get bored I spent my time learning to polish case covers. That is a ton of work. They are not perfect but getting closer. The Cam Cover is a bear.

I had to have my Dynamo cover welded it had a crack from a rock shot. I am currently sanding it hoping to polish this week.

This is where I stopped yesterday. I am now looking into frame prep. There were some dents in the down tubes from a highway peg set up that was over tightened. I used a makeshift slide hammer and heat to pull them out.
