CB750K2 replacement foam and cover seat options
« on: February 02, 2020, 03:11:13 PM »
Correct me if I'm wrong. But the K2 seat is different from the K3-K6 750s.

To quote Andy750 from a decade ago,
K0 seat - ducktail
K1 seat -not ductail...small square raised pattern on top...thinnish
K2 seat - large squares on top -thick...wide....comfy!
K3 -?
K4 -K6 -flat, thin...boring

With that all said. Who sells K2 specific replacement seat foam and cover? Most of what I see online are seat covers for K0-K1 and K2-K6.

The only comfortable foam I've found is the K0 red foam from Yamiya. Expensive, and of course not K2. My K2 DSS seat is a little hard and I'm not positive it's correct style wise.

For comfort and if you don't care about cutting up the foam, I usually cut out 2cm depth of the seat foam to the shape of a gel pad, insert the gel pad and cover it back up with a seat cover. Good for long hours of riding.

You're welcome Andy. Very thorough write up.

Sounds like DSS is the only way to go. Yamiya only has a defect K2/K3 seat.

Just so you know what to expect here is the DSS seat on my K2 -it is a little hard as Don mentioned and looks a little more boxy than OEM but its still better than the generic K4-K6 seat in my opinion. The pattern is correct on top and the piping on the side is also like OEM.

Good luck!
Andy

Thanks for the information. I guess when the time comes Ill be getting a new seat from DSS. Still chewing on the idea of replacing the seat foam and cover on mine, but Ive read that the replacement seat foam just isnt as soft as the original.

I have a DSS K2 seat (and cover) here. The shape is correct, but one important thing is missing: the famous holes that go up from the bottom, right under the bones of your butt. The OEM seat has around 20 holes, about 1cm diameter and 1/2 the thickness of the foam, going up from the bottom. They looked like they were molded in the original foam, cut in later ones. This relieved the pressure under your 'lobes', and was also found in the K0/1 seat foam (the red ones). I made similar ones into my [current] handmade seat years ago: it is key to the long-distance comfort ride.

Modern seats often have a layer of lower-density foam, either on the top or bottom, in the same areas. I saw some of these 'in the white' for another brand of bike, and they were glued together to make it into one foam piece.
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.
