Just wanted to wish you and my good friend Jerry a great time riding the peak Dennis.  Think it should be fun..and scenic for you guys. Noticed that there's been snow in both Utah and Wyoming @ higher elevations over past few days BTW

I haven't personally been up PP for a number of years now..usually take the cog rail [am also into RR stuff BTW]..but really like/enjoy the area.
My bike's currently in storage also..which makes the prospect moot for me @ this point.
Please take some pics when you ride up there guys..possibly post some on the SOHC4 site..okay?

Happy trails..Al/Ichi

Thanks all for the encouragement. Rain is slowly leaving the area and Sat. or Sun. looks like sunny skys and warmer temps. I'm heading mostly south on Thursday towards Moab. Then watch the weather for Hwy 50 or 160 to go east. The return route is hoped to be Hwy 24 to Hartzel, then Hwy 9 up to Kremming and 40 west to Venal, UT........or 318 to Dutch John and the through Flaming Gorge and on to Kemmering WY and back to Pocatello on US 30.....the Oregon Trail.

Happy Trails :) :)

Very cool, please post some pictures!

Just a question from a flatlander... Do you have to adjust or tune the carburetors differently to make the trip up to the peak?

Brad, the Peak is 14,115'. If you're running a little lean to start you're better off and if not stay in a lower gear and keep the revs up. The elevation around here runs from ~ 6,000' to 14,115'. Otherwise drop the needles to lean out the mid-range which requires dropping the carbs twice, once before heading up and then once you have returned. PITA! You're not really going to use the main jet rpm range with the limited speed and the winding road and the speed limit. Always good to have an extra set of plugs too. Going up is the difficult part with carbs  ;) Coming down may not require carbs.

Interesting, thanks for the information.  My only assent to the peak was in a 2006 Honda Accord,  Fun, but not quite the Honda I would have preferred to make the trip with  ;D.

Have a fun and safe ride!

The fact is that there is simply less air the higher in altitude you go, and no amount of jetting or tuning will replace it. ;) Your engine loses about 3-3 1/2% power for every 1000 feet you go up, so at 14,000 feet it's only making 51-55% or so of the power it would have at sea level.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!
