An eclectic stable of motorcycles
« on: February 14, 2020, 11:42:15 AM »
It was mentioned in another thread, so I'll just post a quick summary of the current main denizens of my garage.  First, I don't paint, but I am fortunate to have a good friend who does.  And he OWES me.  Perfect set of circumstances as he's done several motorcycles for me...and a few cars.

One of my favorite bikes is my '78 GL1000 (Goldwing).  I bought it fully Vetterized and pulled all that stuff off and did the cafe thing to it. Hey, big girls need love, too.   It gets lots of favorable comments and would probably be the bike I'd keep if I could only have one!

The CBX was purchased from the original owner (in his 80's).  It had been sitting for about 10 years.  It needed a lot of coaxing to wake up.  He had four of them, was selling them all and this was the last of the four.  It had been his baby and he'd strayed off the beaten path with it a bit.  All period mods.  I kept it pretty much the way he had it.  Period mods deserve preservation, too, and there are plenty of red, silver and black CBX's around.  Not too many with flames!  I'm not a big flame fan, but these were exquisitely done by a fellow named Gilmore out of Chicago in Daytona Beach.  They are in perfect shape.  Kept them.

The Valkyrie is a '97 Bumblebee.  They only came in Standard config with this color combo, but I turned it into a Tourer.  Honda didn't make a Bumblebee Tourer, but I did.  Added a bit of chrome and a set of highly sought after Viking pipes.   Been all over the west on this beast.

I already had a couple of six's in the garage and stumbled onto a ZN1300 Voyager 6 for a song.   Stripped about 200 pounds off it, added a Zephyr tank, Dyna softail seat and a Shadow fender and almost have a motorcycle.  Still poking around with it, but it's pretty much done.   135HP fuel injected and pretty zippy...

Most recently, I picked up another one-owner bike, an '86 VMax.  This makes my third one.   One owner maybe, but it is a mess.  Needs clutch hydraulics, fork seals, fuel pump, Vboost  controller, and two coils.  Maybe more, but that's all I'm currently aware of.  I thought it was going to be quick and dirty and even pulled the '78 750F off the table to work it.  Sheesh it's gonna be a while.

At least he included the low grab rail.  First thing I did was loose the sissy bar...

And then there are the SOHC 750s.   Had them when I was young, now got a couple projects for when I'm more "mature".  Both need huge efforts.  I started a thread on the 78 here.  Moving slow, it won't be a thread for folks who crave fast action.  I'm taking my time on that one.  I'll probably sell the '74.  It's in a million pieces and, I think, is more than I really want to take on.

Here's the 78 thread if interested:
