Mounting A Headlamp With NO Tabs
« on: February 19, 2020, 08:42:35 AM »
I bought two universal halogen headlights from ebay for my 350 and 550. Unfortunately I wasn't thinking when ordering and the lamp has no tabs on the back for mounting to the ring. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a way to mount this up. I cannot weld unfortunately.

Btw, this is what the lamp looks like:

It might be designed to mount into the ring using those wire spring clips.

A customer supplied me with a complete light like that. There's no DOT or E4 numbers on the lense and the headlight bucket uses 10 X 1.25mm threads. Not a common thread, the only place on bikes that I have seen that thread pitch is the lower triple tree clamping bolts. I had to use some from another bike to do my fab for the headlight mounts.

This didn't come with anything other than the lamp. I'm using this lamp with the stock retaining ring and headlight bucket. I asked this question on the Hondatwins forum as well. Someone there said to use W clips like this? But I'm not sure how.

Hi jakec,

Those are the clips I was thinking of.

1. Place the head light into the ring.
2. Place one end of the W-clip under the inner ridge of the headlight ring.
3. The middle straight bar bit goes against the headlight
4. Place (needs a little bit of force) the other end of the w-clip under the inner ridge of the ring.

Much, much harder to describe than a 5 second video lol  :D

Cheers  Geoff

Found a good video on it, thank you for the help. Does anyone know where to get the clips? Preferably in a store so I don't have to wait. Is it an auto parts store thing or a hardware store thing?

Hi jakec,

I did a quick search on eBay (I'm in UK).  These are a slightly different design to the one in your photo but essentially the same.  There has to be a US supplier with good prices.

That's about the price of the set from India with shipping. Looks like that's the way to go.

Jake, I think I can send you a set gratis. Are you sure they’ll work with the stock 350/550 ring?

You can also cut the back out of the OEM sealed beam and pop the H4 mount from the new lens into the hole. On the H4 lens I bought I was able to just pry it right out. I’d actually recommend this as it retains the adjustments/mounts on the stock bucket.

This is the clip assembly. This lens is slightly undersized for the mounting ring.
