1974 cb750 front end identification
« on: February 20, 2020, 09:01:56 AM »
Hey everyone,

This is my first post, after seeing a cb750 cafe racer build I started lurking on this site and really liked the idea of building my own. So I picked up a running 1974 cb750 with the intention of doing a front end swap from a gsxr.

Fast forward to more than a year later and I haven't done a thing to this bike. I decided I would for the time being just enjoy the bike and ride it but its been sitting for a few months now and I need to do some work on the sticky throttle and carbs so I pulled them. I noticed a dried puddle under the front end and checking the brake lever there is no pressure so I also need to get the brakes in good working order. The problem is the caliper is on the driver right side and looks different from any stock photos leading me to realize the forks look different as well. These forks look identical and have mounts on both sides for calipers. Any help identifying the forks and caliper are much appreciated.

Probably from 1979-1981 because of the single piston, caliper mount and disc.

Thanks for the fast replies!

So, searching for 79-81 cb750 calipers they look different and google decided to show me a caliper from a yamaha xs650, perfect match. I guess this is a yamaha front end? Being that the wheel is yamaha I guess that makes sense, I'm going to keep digging and see if I can figure out what model and year.

I think xs 650 may be 34mm tubes.
