Fishead is no longer active.  He did big brake conversions for all sorts of vintage Japanese bikes.  I'm not sure what he was saying but he was very skilled and did some awesome brake upgrades.  If your hub doesn't have the flats in it you really only have a few options: modify the back of the disk carrier to hold the Speedo retainer in place or cut it down and secure it to the hub with pins or countersunk crews.  Are you using mag wheels?

As far as I know I have given this advice for an easy way before, and it seems everyone wants to go more complicated.

Grind or turn your drive down so it just slips  into the disc center hole and to the hub. Drill a 1/8 hole or two thru the drive in a spot where it is above the aluminium part of the hub, not over the bearing.
Now drill thru that into the hub about 1/4 inch deep . Press a roll pin in. Now the drive plate should fit over the pin, may have to drill hole slightly bigger .. that's it.
Go simple or make it complicated.

Thanks for the replies and link.

I am trying to do this conversion without having to machine (file) flats on the side of the hub or drill any holes into it if there is an alternative way of doing this? Hence trying to find out about Fishhead's comment about the GL1000 speedo drive being too large to fit the CB versions.

Still waiting to all the parts together and then it will hopefully become a lot clearer as to the best way to do it.

I note that on the original fitment there is an 0-ring, #20, fitted between the drive flange and the hub? Why is this fitted and can you simply remove it as I assume without it the drive flange will sit slightly further away from the speedo gearbox? I assume it was originally fitted for a purpose?

Yamiya has an alternative if you do not like the one that is attached by 2 4mm screws.
It fit K6 too. The hub must have the flat sides this will grip as stock does.
Later F has a hub looking as Gold Wing, no flat sides.

This cost  more though .
