CB400F Seat+Tank on CB350F?
« on: March 14, 2018, 10:22:29 AM »
Hi SOHC forums,

Is it possible to directly drop the seat and tank from a CB400F onto a CB350F?

I'm asking because I currently need to leave my bike outside and I hate leaving it out there with the original parts on it. Nobody seems to make a reproduction CB350F tank and the repro. seat is really expensive, so the CB400F reproduction seat and tank seem like a good route. I don't really want to go through the hassle of buying used. Also the tank would be great for making my own paint scheme without having to do a lot of prep or ruining the original.

The frames seem really similar, but I'd rather know for sure so I can make an informed decision.

Thanks all,
Nathan

I think the tank would fit pretty easily although I believe the rubber rear mount is different (and some 400F tanks have really long metal tongues that make mounting them a pain). I don't think the seat will fit, but I"M not sure -- they've got pretty different shapes, 400F is thinner, etc. Someone else might know but maybe the hinge would fit and the lock fit into place. I have a 400F and 350F seat I could compare but can't get to them for another 2 weeks.

And it's funny -- 400F stuff used to be worth its weight in gold, now it's 350F stuff...

I should also add: hope you are covering it. And if so, why not buy a cover that locks and leave the original components on it? And -- it's pretty damn hard to steal that seat, and without getting the seat off, it's pretty hard to steal the tank... I've had a side cover ripped off of a bike that didn't have a cover on it, but never a tank or seat.

I would look around for used 350 parts. I bought a seat off ebay that wasn't in bad shape for $75 (had it rebuilt with higher and denser foam because I am tall). Tanks are tougher because so many of them are really gunked up.

Ever get the chance to test it out? I'm definitely still interested to find out, even if it takes a little bit of time. No hurry

I just been out unlatched and folded the 350F seat back, laid a 400f seat in it's place and looks nice, but the chrome grab rail at the rear interferes with the seat and would need to be changed. The bracket for the seat and the catch are in slightly different places, and my guess is because the 400f tank maybe a little longer.

Here they are, side by side. The mounts are off.

I'm selling both if you're interested.
