Looks like air nipples. What is it for and why is it on the bike? Can't be a stock feature right?

Not original, possibly air forks.

Air forks, and you are missing the  D rings on your triple clamp. Best get them in there before it breaks.

Those are as mentioned air fork adapters. Often they are tied together. We used to swap in a fork seal that was a mm smaller ID. Suzi dirt bike I think.
Frank mentioned the D washers, they go in the gap of the top triple to keep the aluminum top tree from breaking when tightened. One of my bikes still can't draw tight even with them so I snug the bolds with the washers still loose and Loctite the nuts.

  ;D

Plus it's the Unicorn top triple, fragile, desirable and expensive to replace, so look after it. It is also a JDM top triple with the hole for the warning light (plugged off) and the Japanese sticker.

Unfortunately, the unicorn triple is cracked on the side that has the correct D ring washer. The side without the D ring washer is fine.

Please excuse my ignorance on the air forks. Do I need to replace the fork tubes to return it to original or it is just a mod that can be taken off?

You can just unscrew the aftermarket fork caps and replace them with the stock caps.
The cracked triple is a major concern...

Thank you. Yes, no worries I have a spare. My son just bought this bike. The title says 1972 but the Frame #1120xxx and Engine #1130xxx tells me it is a 1971 K1, am I correct?

The triple tree is a JDM type with the speed indicator light hole .. does your other have the hole ? NORTH American bikes came without the hole.
 JDM = Japan Domestic Market.

Not sure about the numbers, but the date on the title back then was based on the sales date, not the actual model year. Honda got busted for selling earlier bikes as the current models...

My spare unicorn triple is US market with no hole for the speed warning. I was told JDM model has non foldable foot pegs and this bike has foldable foot pegs. Anything else to tell me if the bike is a JDM import?

No, I don't have any stock fork caps. I am collecting a list of things now but it is very confusing because some of the parts on the bike are 71 and some are 72. I am waiting for my son to send pics of the whole bike

There's some info on the JDM bikes in this thread:
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,136534.msg1538826.html#msg1538826

Fixed pegs, different top triple and sidestand, no VIN tag, km/h rather than mph plus a few other things.

No reason to be in a rush over the fork caps.  If you don't want to add 1 to 10 psi, dont...and they work the same as any other forks.
If it works good, it looks good...

K1 has the idiot lights in the instruments, not on a dash board.

There is no Vin tag on the fork. The PO bought the bike from his boss the original owner who is a "biker" guy. The biker guy PPO bought a Harley and quite riding it in 1999. The bike was started up and ridden every now and then till 2006 and sat until my son bought it yesterday.

Could the fixed pegs and other things been switched over to US parts when the PPO was riding it? I am going to trailer it home from my son's university apartment today. Will take more pics
